Spreading the Word on Fur-Free Friday!

It’s time to get into the fur-free spirit! Fur-Free Friday is 25 November, a day when, all around the world, people who care about animals will be out in force to educate holiday shoppers about the cruelty inherent in the fur trade.

Most fur in European shops nowadays comes from China, where animals raised for their fur endure filthy, cramped cages before they are killed in violent and painful ways. Some animals are still alive as long as 10 minutes after they have been skinned. Our recent video, narrated by… Read more.

Moby Talks Animals in Brand-New PETA Video

Grammy and Brit Award nominee Moby isn’t just releasing his new album and photo book, Destroyed, this week – he’s also the star of a new PETA video. In the video, recorded in Berlin by our German affiliate, the entrepreneur, author and activist opens up about his new album and, of course, about his experience as an advocate for animals.

“Industrial animal production destroys everything it touches”, explains Moby. “It destroys the animals, it destroys the workers, it destroys the communities, and it destroys the people who consume the animal products. No… Read more.

Baroness Lola Young wants the House of Lords to elect faux fur to Parliament. The baroness led a debate in the House of Lords last week to ask Her Majesty’s government what plans it has to support and promote ethical and sustainable clothing.

Prior to the debate, PETA shared with the baroness information about the fur industry and noted that the overwhelming majority of British people are opposed to real fur – 95 percent according to a 2010 poll. Pointing out… Read more.

One of the many parts of my job is that I get to see new PETA videos before they are released. Given the very nature of PETA’s work, this often means that I see disturbing and harrowing footage of cruelty to animals. Of course, PETA doesn’t just release racy videos or celebrity testimonials. Most of the videos you can watch on our site focus on investigations and shocking cruelty… Read more.

A Special Message from Fiona Phillips

Fiona Phillips, like millions of other people across the UK, is looking forward to Christmas, but one thing that you won’t find on her holiday table is turkey – or any other kind of meat. That’s because the Mirror columnist and former GMTV presenter went vegetarian many years ago, and she’s never looked back. So when PETA asked Phillips to narrate its hard-hitting new video about the suffering of turkeys who are raised and killed for food, she leapt at the chance.

“Christmas should be a time of peace and goodwill for… Read more.

PETA’s Foxy Ladies Take to the Ice

PETA’s foxy ladies had a surprise for visitors at the London Eye “Eyeskate” yesterday – nude ice skating! Our intrepid pair braved the winter weather to pass on an important message in defence of animals – “bare skin, don’t wear skin!”

Millions of people across the world already choose to give cruelty the cold shoulder by refusing to wear fur. This light-hearted demo helped to bring a serious issue to the attention of those not yet in the know by highlighting the cruelty of the fur trade (trulyRead more.

Keep US-Style Factory Farms Out of the UK

With the increasing threat that US-style factory farms might come to the UK in the near future, it’s sobering to see what animal care standards are like on the other side of the Atlantic. Last year, PETA US undertook a lengthy undercover investigation of a Pennsylvania dairy factory farm that supplied one of the US’ biggest dairy companies, Land O’Lakes.

The investigation documented deplorable, filthy conditions for cows on the farm, such as pens that were filled with deep excrement (see video and photos) and cows who suffered… Read more.

Within just 24 hours of its release, Kate Winslet’s foie gras narration for PETA had been viewed by more than 230,000 people. This astonishing fact is a perfect example of why we here at PETA so greatly value the support of the wonderful celebrities who back our campaigns on behalf of animals.

The footage that you see in Kate’s narration is not something that anyone would actually want to watch – it is extremely distressing. Foie gras is French for “fatty liver”, and… Read more.
