Hollywood Mum Emily Deschanel: Why I Ditched Dairy

Actor, producer and mother Emily Deschanel makes no bones about her beliefs – as a committed vegan, she’s totally appalled by the cruelty of the dairy industry. She stars as forensic anthropologist Dr Temperance Brennan in hit US crime drama Bones, but in PETA’s brand-new video, it’s the horror of factory farming that she’s investigating.

Watch her behind-the-scenes exposé of how cows raised for milk are treated:

As a mum, Emily explains that she doesn’t want to participate in the suffering of other mothers. The idea of having your child stolen … Read more.

What if Animals Wore ‘Human Fur’? Shocking Ad Turns the Tables on Fashion’s Sick Obsession

Wearing the skin of another animal – an animal forced to live in a cramped, filthy cage before having the hide ripped from his or her back – is a pretty disturbing fashion statement.

For anyone who hasn’t yet grasped that message, this thought-provoking ad should be an eye-opener. Donated by top ad agency Ogilvy & Mather, the video depicts a catwalk show with a twist: the statuesque models are “foxes”, and their grisly outfits include a coat made from dozens of “human arms”.

In reality of course, it’s humans who … Read more.

Why Is Olivia Munn Heartbroken?

After watching never-before-seen images of animals who were electrocuted, strangled and skinned alive on Chinese fur farms, Olivia Munn was shocked and sickened – as any kind-hearted person would be.

The Iron Man 2 star and long-time fur opponent narrates the hard-hitting new video, which she describes as “one of the most heartbreaking things I’ve ever seen.” It features harrowing scenes of workers who bludgeoned raccoon dogs, cut off rabbits’ heads, and ripped the fur off animals’ bodies as they writhed in pain, still conscious. It’s not an easy watch, but it’s … Read more.

The Life of a Piglet

A new documentary, Pig Vision, follows two brothers born on a pretty typical pig farm in Austria. One of the brothers, known as X15, is held in a rearing pen and lives through the horrific process that awaits the vast majority of pigs in the European Union.

The other brother, Jackpot, is rescued and grows up on a sanctuary. The contrast is stark, as one brother lives a social, playful life while the other is denied everything that is natural and important to him.

The conditions portrayed in the video are … Read more.

Award-Winning Actor James Cromwell Warns Against Violence

As Farmer Hoggett in the film Babe, he made his living from abusing animals, but in real life, actor James Cromwell is committed to helping animals. That’s why Cromwell has teamed up with PETA for a new video public service announcement that warns everyone to look out for people who hurt animals before they move on to hurting other humans.

“People who commit violent acts often start out by hurting animals”, explains Cromwell in the video. “If you know of someone who’s abusing or neglecting an animal, don’t ignore it or just … Read more.

Silent Scream

Thanks to host Marco Pierre White, there will be plenty of screaming on Channel 5′s soon-to-debut Marco Pierre White’s Kitchen Wars. But for every meal prepared on the show, there will be countless screams that go unheard – those of the fish whose bodies are cut up, cooked and plated. That’s why PETA has sent a letter to the network asking for space to air our hard-hitting new anti-bullying TV spot, “Silent Scream”, during the show’s 7 June premiere. White’s feud with PETA dates back to 2006, when he was quoted Read more.

Spreading the Word on Fur-Free Friday!

It’s time to get into the fur-free spirit! Fur-Free Friday is 25 November, a day when, all around the world, people who care about animals will be out in force to educate holiday shoppers about the cruelty inherent in the fur trade.

Most fur in European shops nowadays comes from China, where animals raised for their fur endure filthy, cramped cages before they are killed in violent and painful ways. Some animals are still alive as long as 10 minutes after they have been skinned. Our recent video, narrated by Natalie … Read more.

Baroness Lola Young wants the House of Lords to elect faux fur to Parliament. The baroness led a debate in the House of Lords last week to ask Her Majesty’s government what plans it has to support and promote ethical and sustainable clothing.

Prior to the debate, PETA shared with the baroness information about the fur industry and noted that the overwhelming majority of British people are opposed to real fur – 95 percent according to a 2010 poll. Pointing out that, as representatives of the people, … Read more.

One of the many parts of my job is that I get to see new PETA videos before they are released. Given the very nature of PETA’s work, this often means that I see disturbing and harrowing footage of cruelty to animals. Of course, PETA doesn’t just release racy videos or celebrity testimonials. Most of the videos you can watch on our site focus on investigations and shocking cruelty filmed by PETA affiliates.

So when I received the following video, pressed play and heard the cheerful music … Read more.
