A Grim Tour of the International Fur Industry, Narrated by Paloma Faith

Soul-singing sensation Paloma Faith uses her celebrated voice to draw attention to the barbaric fur industry in a new video that shines an unflinching spotlight on fur production in Europe and the US.

Paloma is known for her distinctive style but doesn’t believe that animals should suffer in this way for her fashion choices. As she says:

Origin Assured (sold by Harvey Nichols) Fur Exposed“All fur is the product of extreme cruelty and abuse of animals. That’s why I always choose faux fur. With so many extraordinary alternatives on the market, there’s just no excuse for tearing the fur off

Why Rudolph Doesn’t Belong in a Shopping Centre

Reindeer aren't Christmas decorations! It’s common sense, really – a crowded shopping centre at the busiest time of year is no place for a wild animal. Yet across the UK, a number of towns have plans to use reindeer as holiday “props” in Christmas displays.

Reindeer belong in the Arctic and subarctic regions of the world, where they can live in herds and roam freely over vast open ranges. Being carted around from one display to another, housed in tiny sheds and pens, forced to pull sleighs and exposed to bright lights and loud noises, prevents … Read more.

Why We’ve Just Ordered 4 Gallons of Fake Blood

This week, we’ve been experimenting with theatrical “blood”, considering the pros and cons of flesh-coloured underwear and e-mailing hundreds of people with requests that they take off their clothes in public.

fake blood preparations for vegan demo

Why? We’re planning one of our most daring demos yet – and if you know anything about PETA, that’s really saying something!

On Saturday, 1 November – which, not by coincidence, is World Vegan Day – we’ll be staging a huge “die-in” in the middle of Trafalgar Square in order to draw the world’s attention to the 255 animals who are … Read more.

Everyone Who Cares About Animals Thinks London Zoo Needs to Cancel These Events

London Zoo’s stubborn insistence on not cancelling its “Zoo Lates” events – in which around 6,000 visitors pour into the zoo in the evening, during the animals’ usual resting hours, drink alcohol, sing and shout along to music – reveals the institution’s true priorities. Like all zoos, it’s more concerned with making money than safeguarding the animals it keeps captive.

Allegations that one visitor poured beer on a tiger, another fell and “accidentally” punched a bird and yet another asked a staff member “Which penguin can I fight?” are apparently not enough … Read more.

New Research Confirms There’s No Excuse for Using Live Animals in Military Drills

Pressure is mounting on the Ministry of Defence to stop using live animals in horrific trauma training exercises for medics. The UK’s top army doctor, Brigadier Tim Hodgetts, the Medical Director at Joint Medical Command, has admitted that he receives letters from the House of Commons every fortnight asking why the UK hasn’t switched to humane, modern methods instead of needlessly mutilating animals.

Ever since we revealed how British personnel travel to Denmark and shoot live pigs to pieces in shady training operations, tens of thousands of compassionate people have been … Read more.

Belgium, Bolivia, Colombia, Mexico City, Paraguay and Peru Have Done It. Why Hasn’t the UK?

Karina-and-her-drawing-of-elephants-in-Circuses-768x1024Circuses are no fun for animals – so three cheers to Mexico City for banning the use of wild animals in performances!

We Have the Right to Know – Help Scrap Section 24

SECRECY copy

Right now, animal tests in Britain are hidden behind a veil of secrecy. There’s a law that actually makes it illegal to share with the public what is being done to animals in laboratories – even though taxpayers’ money may be funding the experiments.

Now, at last, we have the chance to get rid of that law – Section 24 of the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986.

The UK government launched a public consultation to scrap Section 24, which has now closed. Thanks to everyone who responded to the consultation and asked Read more.
