Animals Skinned Alive for UGG-Style Boots

Hard to imagine that footwear involving the mutilation of millions of sheep could get any ugglier, but now tests conducted on knock-off UGG-style boots labelled as “Australian sheepskin” reveal that they were actually made of raccoon dog fur, most likely from animals confined to barbaric Chinese fur farms.

Please make a donation to support our work to help all animals.

Raccoon dogs are confined to row upon row of tiny wire cages that are exposed to the elements. Many of the animals go insane from… Read more.

It’s Furriers’ Turn to Take a Blow in Europe

The European Union has done it again. First, it banned the sale of products from slaughtered seals, and now the European Parliament is requiring that all clothing containing any fur or leather whatsoever be clearly marked with labels stating, “Non-textile parts of animal origin”.

Member of the European Parliament Eva-Britt Svensson of Sweden said the new regulations would benefit animals, consumers, and allergy sufferers. “We’re always saying that consumer power is important, but if we’re serious about this, we have to live up to it and give consumers a chance to use… Read more.

Warm-blooded males will be getting the message loud and clear today that only the cold-hearted could wear snakeskin boots or python belts. Model Amii Grove is supporting PETA’s campaign to highlight the plight of exotic animals who are killed for the skins trade by gracing the pages of Page 3 while body-painted to look like a snake. It took six hours for body painter Laura Scimone to transform Amii into a beautiful snake.

Amii was horrified to find out from PETA… Read more.

Waka Flocka Flame Strips Down for New PETA Campaign

Wearing nothing but strategically placed bling, rapper Waka Flocka Flame shows off his tattoos – and more – in his brand-new PETA campaign ad, with the message “Ink, Not Mink. Be Comfortable in Your Own Skin and Let Animals Keep Theirs”. The ad was shot by top celebrity photographer Robert Sebree.

In an exclusive PETA US interview, Waka calls on the hip-hop community to consider the animals who are cruelly killed for fur coats, collars and cuffs. “Understand where that fox fur came from before you spend $1,000″,… Read more.

Be an Everyday Superhero for Animals

Today, The Sun introduced Britain’s animals to their very own real-life superhero. To quote the benevolent masked crusader: “I make sure people aren’t abusing their animals. I serve justice to those who deserve it. We stand for those who cannot, because we can”. Bravo! Rapturous applause from your fans at PETA!

While “the black arrow” battles the forces of evil in defence of our furry friends, there are plenty of simple things that anyone can do to be an everyday hero for animals. Here are just a few:

  1. Go

Beautiful ‘Bunnies’ Turn Heads in Piccadilly Circus

Fed up with people pinching their pelts, an army of 10 giant “rabbits” invaded Piccadilly Circus today. Carrying signs that read, “Save Our Skins – Don’t Wear Fur!” and “Have a Heart – Don’t Wear Fur”, the colossal cottontails were protesting against the use of fur for clothing  just before London Fashion Week, which starts tomorrow.

PETA’s rabbits are all riled up that fur-wearers support the slaughter of animals for their skins. On fur farms, animals spend their entire lives trapped in tiny, filthy cages, where they suffer severe physical… Read more.

Models Raise Edinburgh Temperatures for Valentine’s Day

Just in time for Valentine’s Day weekend, four gorgeous lads and lasses from Superior Model Management brought some passion to Parliament Square by staging a steamy bed scene for passers-by. Wearing just enough to preserve their modesty and holding heart-shaped signs reading, “Fur – Out! Love – In!” models Josie Smith, Lynsey Taylor, Brian Kearney and Jonathan Horn encouraged Edinburgh residents to have a heart by shunning fur.

“We’re bringing our big hearts and bare skin to beautiful Edinburgh with the message that animals are not ours to wear“, says… Read more.

Vintage Fur: Animals Still Died for Your Coat

© iStockPhoto / mythja

From using energy-saving light bulbs to recycling, we’re all wannabe eco warriors these days! But the fur trade latched onto this idea, touting “vintage” fur as an environmental choice to uninformed shoppers. Here’s why second-hand furs are still a problem:

  1. Those who wear fur – whether new or second-hand – are promoting the torturing of animals and helping the flagging fur trade through acting as a walking advert for cruelty.
  2. The idea that vintage fur is more acceptable than new

Snow Activists Urge Londoners to Give Fur the Cold Shoulder

While most people stayed bundled up drinking tea in front of the box yesterday, a few of us from PETA braved the icy weather to spread the word that fur is cruel and not cool and that although it’s cold outside, we do not need to have cold hearts. Wrapped up in faux woollies, we headed to the iconic London Eye to build an army of snow people to take part in our first-ever “snow protest”.

We wanted people to consider that every year, animals are trapped for fur and suffer excruciating… Read more.

Mystery of Dead Seals in Scotland, but What About Canada’s Massacre?

© iStockPhoto.com / zanskar

The bodies of dozens of seals have been found washed up on the coasts of Scotland. All the bodies had horrific lacerations, leaving people to question how the animals died. Speculation as to the cause of death ranges from a cookiecutter shark to a ship’s propeller to an underwater wave-power turbine.

Tragic as this is, every year, tens of thousands of seals suffer a similarly violent fate during Canada’s annual seal slaughter. These seals are massacred for products that… Read more.
