With London Fashion Week starting tomorrow, PETA activists hit New Bond Street to remind shoppers that there’s nothing fashionable about wearing the skin of tortured animals:
Three models in black dresses and spiked heels held up the corpses of dead foxes, confronting fur-wearers with the rest of their fur coat.
Animals on fur farms spend their entire lives confined to cramped, filthy cages before they are beaten, gassed or anally electrocuted and are sometimes skinned while they are still alive. Designers such as Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger and Vivienne Westwood, … Read more.
A chic little downtown jacket. Buttery soft. Comes in a stunning mahogany tan. Detailed with a unique frilled-flesh collar. Made in England. 100% genuine human leather.
Would you wear it? Not a chance, right?!
Fortunately, no one was harmed in the making of this jacket. It’s actually made out of latex by art student Heidi Alavi to remind people that human skin and animal skin are the same – and that neither is “fabric”. Stealing skin to make jackets, bags and belts will never be acceptable. From cows to sheep to crocodiles … Read more.

Body-painted to resemble “bloodied, skinned” people, three models representing PETA converged outside the opening of the “Hermès Leather Forever” exhibition at the Royal Academy of the Arts today. They held signs reading, “Hermès, Bag Cruelty: Ditch Leather”, while other PETA members handed out leaflets to passers-by and people attending the event. In addition to causing cows to suffer and die, the leather industry is toxic to the environment and a threat to human health. Unlike more progressive companies, Hermès also uses fur.

They sit next to you on the train, they walk past you at the supermarket and they might even work in your office – so when you see someone wearing fur, it’s good to be prepared. It’s hard to believe, I know, but many people who wear fur still have absolutely no idea what happens to animals who are killed for their skins. Or perhaps they think that if the jacket is “vintage“, somehow that makes it alright – and they need you to let them know it isn’t! With … Read more.

At her birthday luncheon today, Cornelia Guest and her well-wishers donated dozens of their own coats – made from foxes, chinchillas, rabbits, minks and other animals – to PETA US’ fur-coat giveaway program for the homeless.
PETA US Vice President Dan Mathews was on hand to collect the furs and said, “Fur used to be a uniform in high society, but that’s all changing, and nobody illustrates that better than Cornelia”.
