10 Groups: a Single Message Against Cruel Fortnum’s Royal Warrants

We’ve joined forces with other leading animal protection groups in the UK to send a strong message against abusing geese for foie gras.

Animal Aid, Animal Defenders International, Compassion in World Farming, Four Paws, Humane Society International/UK, OneKind, the RSPCA, Viva! and the World Society for the Protection of Animals have all backed PETA’s call for Fortnum & Mason to be stripped of its Royal Warrants because of the store’s continuing sale of unethical foie gras.

Curbing the Cruelty Epidemic

Worrying news this week: the RSPCA reports that in England and Wales, convictions for cruelty to animals have risen by a third in the last year. This should be a call to action for society, a clear sign that we need to make humane education a priority and work together to tackle animal abuse wherever we see it.

If you witness cruelty, please report it to the police or relevant authorities. PETA often offers a £1,000 reward to anyone who comes forward to provide information leading to the conviction of animal abusers. … Read more.

Who’s Really Responsible for Animal Euthanasia?

In a recent article published in The Mail on Sunday, the RSPCA came under fire over claims that half the animals it rescued last year were euthanised.

Nobody wants to see healthy animals lose their lives. But given the current crisis of abandoned dogs and cats, attacking the UK’s oldest animal welfare charity for a problem that it did not create is certainly not the answer.

PETA Joins Host of Animal Protection Charities Calling on Prime Minister to Ban Wild Animals in Circuses

PETA, alongside the majority of UK animal protection organisations, has signed a joint letter to David Cameron calling for him to reverse his decision not to ban wild animals in circuses.

The letter, which can be read in full here, was sent to Mr Cameron in advance of a debate in Parliament scheduled for next Wednesday. The debate has been secured by Labour MP Rob Flello, and MPs from all parties will be in attendance to put pressure on the government to reverse the decision not to implement a ban.

One in Five Pedigree Dogs Is Discarded Within Two Years

A survey conducted by the RSPCA found that one in five pedigree puppies purchased from a breeder was given up before his or her second birthday. Not only did many of these puppies end up in already crowded animal shelters, but 36 percent had health problems and 3 percent died.
