As we’re all well aware by now, teenage pregnancy and STIs are rife among young people in the UK. It’s one of those charms we English have. Apparently, around 400,000 Britons were diagnosed with sexually transmitted diseases like chlamydia and gonorrhoea last year – an ever-climbing figure and over half of these are the under-25s. Tut, tut. The Health Protection Agency have also revealed that the rate of abortions is soaring, with some girls on their fourth before they reach 18 (Vicky Pollard from Little Britain, anyone?).
The government and sexual-health professionals are up in arms and are calling for something to be done, but what about our animal friends, many of whom are free to run amuck and produce litter upon litter of babies, only to be dumped on the streets or in shelters. That’s another epidemic I don’t hear the people in power talking about. I think all parents should be sitting down and talking about the ‘birds and the bees’ in the way this family does below. It’s classic.
