PHOTOS: Air France Faces Embarrassing Moment at Airline Conference

It can take courage to stand up for your convictions. Fortunately, compassionate PETA supporters have bucket loads of it!

Today, in a room full of suited airline bosses discussing the future of aviation, this activist stood up and made her voice heard – literally – about Air France’s cruelty to primates. Just before a speech by Air France Executive Pieter Elbers in London, she crashed the venue with a banner and a demand for the airline to stop shipping monkeys to their deaths in laboratories.

Peter Gabriel: Don’t Shock, Poison or Kill the Monkey

Rock-and-roll icon Peter Gabriel has just taken time out from his European tour to sound off about an issue that is completely inexcusable – Air France’s involvement in trafficking primates for animal testing. In a letter that he sent to Air France CEO Alexandre de Juniac, the “Sledgehammer” singer points out that Air France is the only airline that still transports monkeys to laboratories where they are caged, experimented on and killed. He wrote the following:

Before arriving at their final destination, these intelligent, sensitive primates are torn from their homes and

Journey Straight to Hell – the Story of Monkeys in the Animal Testing Trade

UK primate trafficking airlines macaquesGrim figures recently released by the Home Office show that 1,577 monkeys were imported to UK labs in 2012 from China, Vietnam and Mauritius. These primates were born in breeding facilities in Asia, usually in cramped, squalid conditions, before being packed into wooden crates, loaded onto the hold of a plane and shipped to Britain. Once they arrive, they’re dispatched straight to laboratories, where they will be kept in cages and subjected to agonising, often fatal tests.

This infographic from PETA US takes you through a typical example of these animals’ … Read more.

Caged ‘Monkeys’ Protest Against Primate Trafficking

Did you know that some airlines are propping up the cruel and sinister vivisection industry? China Southern Airlines ships monkeys from their homes in the wild or from squalid breeding facilities to laboratories in the EU and the US, where they are imprisoned in tiny cages, force-fed chemicals, crippled, cut into and killed.

PETA supporters took part in a striking protest in Whitehall today to shine a light on this shocking practice. The demo was planned to coincide with an aviation conference attended by Tan Wangeng, the president and CEO of China … Read more.

Exciting news! Two more air carriers, TAM and Hainan Airlines, have announced that they will no longer transport primates for use in cruel laboratory experiments! PETA and other animal protection organisations put the pressure on the airlines after it was revealed that they were recently handling shipments of monkeys to laboratories in North America.

Victories, Progress and Patience

It’s always fantastic to be involved in an intense campaign that achieves quick results for animals. Two weeks ago, we stopped an Air France shipment of monkeys destined for an animal laboratory, and the week before, we persuaded the government to refuse permission for a new beagle-breeding farm.

However, we also make slow and steady progress in areas that impact thousands and even millions of animals. For instance, we have just learned of a small but vital change that removes some of the bureaucratic obstacles preventing companies from bypassing animal … Read more.

Imprisoned, Poisoned and Killed: the Suffering of Monkeys in Labs Exposed

The Daily Mail yesterday carried the sickening and sad story of a PETA US exposé of a major laboratory in Washington state that experiments on monkeys.

A distraught employee of Shin Nippon Biomedical Laboratories contacted PETA US to report the suffering of monkeys used in the tests that the business performs on contract for drug and chemical companies. The Mail article paints a horrifying picture of monkeys shivering with cold because of the freezing liquids dripped into their veins, screaming and shaking while having blood taken and being tormented and terrified by the … Read more.
