If Hitler Was a Vegetarian…

So you all know that Hitler being a vegetarian is a myth, right? Animal Rights Malta has an interesting piece which bites back at another blogger who states that ‘an animal lover’ like Hitler would kill so many people because “… some animal lovers are so extremely sensitive to the cruelty that humans continuously inflict on animals that they develop an extreme hatred towards humans.”

This is clearly ridiculous - well for the most part, I can’t speak for every animal lover – and Animal Rights Malta gives them a good thrashing with some comments of their own. Humans are actually animals, so it makes sense to look out for everyone that comes under the heading ‘animal’. Just because someone has a shred of compassion for non-human animals it does not make them a raving lunatic. I can’t say I’ve ever met a vegetarian with an extreme hate towards anything, we’re quite a peaceful bunch really. An interesting read…

Watch What You Throw on the BBQ

Yet another research paper has been released pointing to meat as a significant cause of cancer. The American Institute for Cancer Research (AICA) are warning people rubbing their hands with glee at the prospect of the returning Summer BBQ, to watch what they cook and how they cook it. This article is all a bit too technical for the likes of me, but here are the basics:

Diets high in red meat like beef, pork and lamb, and especially processed meats like hot dogs and burgers are “a convincing cause of colorectal cancer”. Colorectal cancer means it starts in the colon or rectum. Not nice.

Grilling veg and fruit poses no potential cancer risks. Diets high in plant foods are associated with reduced risk of several cancers.

So, in short – don’t eat meat, throw a veggie kebab on the barby instead. Mmm…

Meat Sausages Increase Risk of Cancer

So according to today’s news, not only is there an increased risk of bangers making your heart go bang – that’s ‘sausages can give you a heart-attack’ if you’re not down with the UK lingo – it’s now a widely known fact that eating just one sausage a day raises the risk of cancer by a fifth. Now that’s a lot of extra chances of getting cancer, if you ask me. And it’s not just sausages either, eating bacon or any other processed meat every day also carries the same risk, so I’d steer clear of it all. The animals are telling me they agree.

Feeding Kids Meat is Child Abuse

Childhood obesity is still hot news around the world, but do parents realise that feeding their kids meat could be a cause? Take a look at this controversial interview PETA did with Friction TV last year about our campaign ‘Feeding Kids Meat is Child Abuse’ – sure fitness is important in fighting the flab but ditching animal products is another major factor. Listen up mums and dads!

Taxing Meat Should Have Been in the Budget

As you may know, the Budget took place yesterday and has been dubbed by the media as the ‘Green Budget’ due to its ‘environmentally friendly’ tax impositions. What I failed to see was the most environmentally friendly and energy efficient solution possible – a tax on meat. The UK, and the rest of the world too, should put tax on meat for a number of reasons: environmental, health and of course for the animals. Why? See what our friends from across the pond have to say on meat tax.
