This Giant Goose Is Representing Birds in Epic Trafalgar Square Pillow Fight (Photos)

Today was International Pillow Fight Day – a worldwide flashmob event planned in a spirit of harmless fun. It’s unfortunate, then, that many of the very pillows used in the festivities caused immeasurable harm to the ducks and geese who had the feathers yanked out of their skin to fill them.

PETA’s giant plucked “goose” sprang (or rather, waddled) into action to give revellers in Trafalgar Square a timely reminder about the dire consequences of the down industry for birds.

From Dubai With Love

Our mission to stop geese from being tortured for foie gras has entered new territory this week. Ahead of Fortnum & Mason’s opening of a new store in Dubai, former James Bond star Sir Roger Moore has called on Emirates residents not to shop there because of the company’s sale of the vile foodstuff. We’ve also released a new Arabic version of his advert:

PETA brings message about Fortnums' foie gras cruelty to Dubai in UAE

Here is Sir Roger’s statement:

I do hope the good people of Dubai will not be taken in by Fortnum & Mason’s scurrilous claim that “Englishness” characterises its

Israel Set to Become First Country to Ban Foie Gras Sales!

CC DucksMazel tov! Israel is on track to introduce a law that would ban the sale of vile foie gras. It’s already illegal to produce the “fatty liver” pâté in Israel and many other places, including the UK, but until now, unscrupulous retailers have still been allowed to sell the inhumane product, profiting from the misery of ducks and geese. This groundbreaking new legislation will force them to change their ways, saving many animals from torment in the process.

The new bill has already passed its first hearing in Israel’s parliament, the … Read more.

Further Foie Gras Progress!

Barely a week goes by in which we don’t learn of another business throwing out foie gras, the cruel foodstuff which is made by force-feeding ducks and geese until their livers become diseased.

Restaurants and businesses refuse to sell cruel foie gras

Compassionate PETA supporters are often behind these heartening successes against foie gras. There’s now such a stigma attached to this vile product that a single person speaking out against it can be enough to persuade companies that they’d be better off not selling it.

Here are some recent highlights:

Fortnum & Mason’s Unwarranted Cruelty – One is Not Amused

A Royal Warrant is a seal of approval from The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh or Prince Charles. London department store Fortnum & Mason currently holds two of them, credentials which are vital to its brand image as a traditional British retailer.

There’s something not quite right here. Royal Warrant holders are expected to adhere to certain ethical standards, yet Fortnum & Mason has in recent years become infamous for its lack of ethics when it comes to animals, since it continues to sell foie gras, a product universally condemned by compassionate … Read more.

Siouxsie Sioux Slams Fortnum & Mason’s Vile Foie Gras

The “first lady of punk” wants Fortnum & Mason to “get with the times”.

First lady of punk teams up with PETA to help animalsSiouxsie Sioux is the latest person to join the fast-growing list of notables who are letting Fortnum & Mason’s Ewan Venters have it over the shop’s continued sales of vile foie gras. She has written a letter to Venters explaining the horrors of foie gras production, which is banned in the UK, and how it has no place in a store that prides itself on its British tradition.

Best known as the vocalist for the punk band Siouxsie … Read more.

Ducks, geese and compassionate Brits are cheering with delight today at the news that online retail giant Amazon has just agreed to stop selling foie gras on its UK website!

Four Kickass Successes in the Campaign Against Foie Gras

We get really excited when we learn about people taking things into their own hands and speaking up for animals in their community. So we were delighted to hear recently from three supporters who have been successful in getting foie gras removed from local businesses! Ana was taken aback to discover that her local gastropub, The Star in London’s Highgate, was dishing up portions of cruelty – but when she wrote to the pub’s owners informing them about the suffering of ducks and geese who are force-fed for foie gras, they promptly … Read more.

Just Another Day in the Office

PETA’s always had a diverse workforce. But one staffer in particular stands out – our campaign goose! You might have seen him before, taking our campaign against foie gras to the streets and standing up for all his fellow birds who are being tortured on French farms.

We followed him around for a day to create a gallery that shows how PETA’s goose is working hard to end Fortnum & Mason’s sales of cruelly produced foie gras.

tubeAfter an early start and chowing down on some fresh-cut grass, I make my … Read more.

PHOTOS: Force-Feeding Outside Fortnum & Mason

Could you eat 20 kg of corn in one day? That’s the human equivalent of what ducks and geese typically have rammed down their throats every single day on foie gras farms.

It can be hard to visualise exactly how much food this is, so we decided to stage a graphic demo that illustrates both the grotesque quantities of grain that birds are forced to swallow and the violent way in which force-feeding occurs.

Force-feeding3

Today, a valiant PETA supporter volunteered to kneel outside Fortnum & Mason’s Piccadilly store and be “force-fed” … Read more.
