PICS: Foxes Snuggling Up in a Bed of Donated Furs

The fur industry is one of the most barbaric and bloody on the planet, causing millions of animals untold suffering every single year. So it warms our hearts to see former fur-wearers donating their coats to us to be put to good use – in this case, as bedding to comfort injured and orphaned animals.

The Fox Project in Kent takes in and nurtures hundreds of red foxes who have been injured or orphaned because of hunting, traffic accidents and “pest” control. PETA UK has sent this wildlife hospital some fur coats … Read more.

Joanna Krupa: Fur Trim Is Seriously Unattractive

Joanna Krupa, who was voted Sexiest Model in the World by magazines in the US and Australia, is stripping down for animals in her brand-new PETA ad, in which she points out the absurdity of wearing fur and fur trim by wearing “a bit” of it herself!

“I wanted to do this campaign to keep talking to people about how bad fur is. Stop! Fur is not sexy. It’s not cool”, Krupa says in her PETA US interview. “You’re walking down the street wearing fur—you really look like an idiot!”

Here’s the Rest of Your Fur Coat

With London Fashion Week starting tomorrow, PETA activists hit New Bond Street to remind shoppers that there’s nothing fashionable about wearing the skin of tortured animals:

Three models in black dresses and spiked heels held up the corpses of dead foxes, confronting fur-wearers with the rest of their fur coat.

Animals on fur farms spend their entire lives confined to cramped, filthy cages before they are beaten, gassed or anally electrocuted and are sometimes skinned while they are still alive. Designers such as Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger and Vivienne Westwood, … Read more.

BON’A PARTE Goes Fur-Free Following a PETA Supporter’s Letter

Sometimes, just one person can make a huge difference for animals. While PETA and its affiliates around the world work to improve the lives of animals with high-profile campaigns, we know that small actions can also be very effective.

Many of our supporters achieve success through their own small actions, such as encouraging school cafeterias to offer more vegan options or working with a council to make a community safer for wildlife. And we love hearing their stories.

So we were very excited to find out how a Dutch supporter managed to … Read more.

Hundreds March Through London With Plea To ‘Spare The Bears’

Wearing bear masks, dressed in black and holding signs that read, “MoD: Go Fur-Free”, hundreds of compassionate members of the public marched through central London to urge the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to replace The Queen’s Guards’ bearskin caps with cruelty-free faux fur. BAFTA and Academy Award winner Anjelica Huston has appealed on behalf of PETA and the Animal Rights Action Network (ARAN) to Simon Coveney, Minister for Agriculture, Food & the Marine, to ensure that Ireland honour its commitment to ban fur farming in the upcoming Animal Health and Welfare Bill.

“This issue means a lot to me as I grew up in Ireland and used to wear fur. I had a change of heart when I learned how minks and foxes on fur farms are crammed into tiny, … Read more.

Clothing Chain M&Co Ditches Fur Peddling Company

We’ve just received some great news from clothing chain M&Co! After being contacted by PETA and one of our brilliant supporters regarding a coat with real fur trim, the store immediately took action. Not only did M&Co move swiftly to remove the coat, they also cut all ties with fashion label Cutie, which was selling the coat as a concessionary item in their stores, saying they “no longer have confidence in Cutie’s quality control procedures.” We applaud M&Co for staking such a swift and compassionate stance on the sale of fur.… Read more.

Canada’s Seal Slaughter Dying Off

Harp Seal Sea Shepherd

© Sea Shepherd Conservation Society

Since 1996, the Canadian government has poured millions of dollars a year into subsidising the commercial seal slaughter and marketing the fur and flesh of baby harp seals. But all that money isn’t doing any good – the seal industry continues to collapse.

Since the European Union banned the import of seal products in 2010, Canada has fought with it, the World Trade Organization and anyone else it could think of to have the ban overturned – so far without any luck. Canada tried to go … Read more.
