PETA Germany Saves 100+ Animals

Dozens of animals were rescued from a ramshackle farm in Arnsberg-Hüsten, Germany, after a whistleblower alerted PETA Germany that the animals were being kept in filthy, dilapidated sheds or were enclosed in broken wire fences—exposed to the elements, predators, and the beer-bottle-littered ground.

Upon investigation, staff members found 59 chickens, 34 rabbits, 25 ducks, and six geese, as well as the skins and heads of two dead rabbits and the carcasses of three dead and decaying animals, which were being eaten by rats. The whistleblower stated that the … Read more.

In another victory for birds suffering on foie gras factory farms, food service giant ARAMARK has agreed to stop distributing foie gras. ARAMARK is an international corporation providing food services to the health-care, defence and education sectors as well as to businesses, stadiums, public attractions and convention centres.

After viewing PETA US’ horrific exposé showing how ducks and geese are abused by being force-fed for this vile product, the corporation made the compassionate decision to remove foie gras from its offerings. ARAMARK serves more than 2 billion meals each … Read more.

Sexy Santas Say, ‘Fortnum & Mason, Stop Selling Foie Gras’

PETA’s Sexy Santas were outside Fortnum & Mason yesterday with a little gift for shoppers. Our very own “Santa’s little helpers” handed out personalised carrier bags showing customers why Fortnum & Mason should get a lump of coal this Christmas for continuing to sell foie gras.

The bags, which feature the image of a dead goose and read, “Fortnum & Mason’s Idea of Wringing In the Holidays”, certainly had an impact on holiday shoppers!

There is no delicate way to put it: Foie gras is an unspeakably cruel product. Producers … Read more.

Our fabulous activists were out in force on Saturday to enlighten holiday shoppers as to Fortnum & Mason’s idea of getting stuffed at Christmas. By continuing to sell foie gras, Fortnum & Mason is endorsing one of the worst forms of cruelty to animals.

With huge signs positioned on either side of the main entrance, people entering or leaving the store were confronted with the grim reality of what it takes to produce the foie gras sold at Fortnum & Mason. Passersby were also given leaflets detailing how … Read more.

Victory: Harvey Nichols Ends Foie Gras Sales!

Following meetings with PETA – and thanks, too, to a lovely letter from Sir Roger Moore – Harvey Nichols has agreed to remove foie gras from their restaurant menus come the New Year.

The first step came in 2007 when, after meeting with PETA, Harvey Nichols agreed to remove foie gras from their department store shelves.

Selfridge’s agreed not to sell foie gras late last year, following an appeal on PETA’s behalf by our 2009 Person of the Year, Sir Roger Moore. Now we have our eye on … Read more.

On the Menu: Animal Welfare

Like most vegans, I often find myself in conversation with people about what I eat and the reasons for my choices, so I try to arm myself with knowledge to be as effective a voice as I can be for all animals currently suffering on factory farms.

That’s why I was so impressed by Sue Cross’s book On the Menu: Animal Welfare, which comprehensively explores the treatment of animals bred and killed for food in the UK. From mussels, lobsters and squids to cows, sheep, pheasants and rabbits, the book describes … Read more.
