Hurricane Irene Hits Virginia, PETA US Helps Save Local Animals

Amidst severe flooding and heavy rain, PETA US staffers have been out in force responding to emergency animal cases as a result of Hurricane Irene which has so far killed more than 10 people and countless animals and left an estimated 2 million people without power.

Animal Rescue Efforts Continue in Japan

PETA Asia staffer Ashley Fruno – who has been in Japan working with Isabella Gallaon-Aoki from the local group Animal Friends Niigata since last Saturday – has witnessed tremendous devastation and heartbreak since arriving in the region. PETA Asia-Pacific’s Rescue Efforts in Japan

The first member of an international animal rights group to reach the disaster area, PETA Asia-Pacific senior campaigner Ashley Fruno has been in Japan with Isabella Gallaon-Aoki of Animal Friends Niigata since taking the first flight to Tokyo after the airport opened on Saturday night.

Update on PETA Asia-Pacific’s Rescue Work in Japan

PETA Asia-Pacific senior campaigner Ashley Fruno has been in Japan with Isabella Gallaon-Aoki of Animal Friends Niigata since taking the first flight to Tokyo after the airport opened Saturday night. PETA Asia-Pacific is the first international animal rights group on the ground in affected areas.

While it is apparent that most animals were swept away with their humans in the worst-affected areas, Ashley and Isabella are ready to provide food, water and care to animals abandoned when their guardians fled to evacuation centres.
