Thousands March Against Bullfighting in Alès, France

It was an impressive sight: thousands of activists, coming from all over Belgium, France, Italy, Spain and elsewhere to speak out peacefully for animals who don’t have a voice.

As bullfighters in Alès, in the south of France, were preparing to execute 18 bulls during the town’s annual Ascension Festival this weekend, compassionate people came together to protest against this cruel and archaic spectacle. Foie Gras: Where Do You Stand?

Where do you stand? That’s the question that we posed to guests at Fortnum & Mason’s Food and Drink Awards last night. PETA gave Fortnum & Mason the shameful award of Cruellest Retailer on Monday as a result of its sale of foie gras, and we’re determined to tell as many people as possible about the store’s unethical practices, which hurt animals.

… a company that profits from the torture of animals – Fortnum & Mason. As it gears up for its hoity-toity Food & Drink Awards ceremony tomorrow, we felt duty-bound to tell the world about the store’s nasty side by presenting an award of our own. So today, we bestowed on Fortnum & Mason the not-so-proud title of UK’s Cruellest Retailer because of its continued sale of foie gras.

‘If You ♥ England, Don’t Shop at F&M’, Say PETA Protesters on St George’s Day

Fortnum & Mason’s carefully cultivated image – of a shop steeped in English tradition – took a major knock yesterday, thanks to a wave of PETA supporters who paid the store a surprise St George’s Day visit! Whether handing out fliers or posing almost naked and bodypainted with St George’s flags, activists were determined to remind the company and its customer that the sale of foie gras is positively un-English.

Lacey Banghard: Too Much Sex Can Be Deadly

Lacey Banghard might have been voted out of the Celebrity Big Brother house only a few days ago, but she’s already teamed up with PETA to stand up for what she believes in – safe sex for cats and dogs!

The Hobbit: PETA’s ‘Horses’ Crash the Premiere

Fans were reminded of the deaths of numerous animals during the production of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, as PETA supporters converged outside the ODEON Cinema in Leicester Square at the premiere. In all, five horses, 12 chickens, a pony and several goats and sheep were allegedly maimed or killed, and PETA wants to encourage moviegoers to let Peter Jackson know that using live animals – and letting them die – is unacceptable in the age of breathtaking special effects.

PETA Volunteer Inspires People Globally to Stand Up for Animals

Today is International Volunteer Day. PETA owes its success to those who selflessly dedicate their time and resources to helping animals. We have so many volunteers doing wonderful work, and to celebrate, today we’re recognising one supporter with PETA’s Volunteerism Award.

Who’s on Your Plate?

To mark the World Week for the Abolition of Meat, a PETA supporter in Glasgow stripped down with the aim of encouraging passersby to have compassion for the billions of animals who are abused and killed by the meat, egg, dairy and fishing industries every year.

Posing on a giant plate – complete with to-scale cutlery, chips, peas and a serving of ketchup, her banner read, “Try to Relate to Who’s on Your Plate. Go Vegan”.

Giant ‘Goose’ Gatecrashes Fortnum & Mason’s Diamond Jubilee Street Party

A giant “goose” led a protest against Fortnum & Mason at the store’s street party celebration marking The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee today. PETA members – making goose sounds and holding signs – added to the festivities. They were pointing out that despite being provided with evidence that ducks and geese used in foie gras production are grotesquely abused, Fortnum & Mason refuses to stop selling the product.

‘Skinned’ People Descend On Hermès Leather Exhibition

Body-painted to resemble “bloodied, skinned” people, three models representing PETA converged outside the opening of the “Hermès Leather Forever” exhibition at the Royal Academy of the Arts today. They held signs reading, “Hermès, Bag Cruelty: Ditch Leather”, while other PETA members handed out leaflets to passers-by and people attending the event. In addition to causing cows to suffer and die, the leather industry is toxic to the environment and a threat to human health. Unlike more progressive companies, Hermès also uses fur.
