Chantelle Houghton: Ho, Ho, Faux – Don’t Buy Foie Gras

Christmas shoppers outside Fortnum & Mason’s Piccadilly store got a festive surprise today when Big Brother winner Chantelle Houghton, dressed in a seasonal red velvet robe, led a protest against the department store’s sale of foie gras. Our favourite socialite handed out free tins of deliciously decadent, cruelty-free faux gras to shoppers who signed PETA’s enormous Christmas card urging the department store to end its sale of a product so cruel that its production is illegal under UK law.

“I’m dreaming of a kind Christmas – one where foie gras is… Read more.

Trading Standards Warns Fortnum & Mason To Stop Misleading Customers Over Animal Welfare Claims

© iStockPhoto / kerriekerr

In response to a complaint we filed, Fortnum & Mason has been warned by Westminster Trading Standards that if it does not amend its corporate social responsibility policy or make it clear that the policy does not cover foie gras, it could be in breach of the Consumer Protection From Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 and face legal action!

The company disingenuously states that “animal welfare is very important to us” and claims that all its meat is of the highest welfare standard, complying… Read more.

British Bollywood Star Jiah Khan Goes Wild in New PETA Ad

Crouched in a cage wearing a leopard-print bodysuit next to the words “Wild Animals Belong in the Wild. Boycott Zoos”, Bollywood beauty Jiah Khan stars in a brand-new ad for PETA to spread the word that animals suffer in captivity.

“Actors choose to entertain, but animals locked away in zoos are given no choice”, says Jiah. “All strong-willed beings treasure their freedom above all else, and that applies to tigers, elephants, bears, monkeys and other animals too.”

Elen Rivas’ Anti-Bullfighting Ad Won’t Fly With easyJet

A new ad from PETA – in which Spanish-born celebrity Elen Rivas appears nude and “bleeding” from the banderillas stuck in her back next to the words “The Naked Truth: Bullfighting Is Cruel” – has been deemed too racy to run in Traveller, easyJet’s in-flight magazine. We’d hoped to reach British tourists with the message about boycotting bullfighting when they visit Spain, but the magazine’s publishers have ruled that although they sympathise with the cause, they cannot run the artwork because of the graphic nature of the images and the nudity involved.… Read more.

Warm-blooded males will be getting the message loud and clear today that only the cold-hearted could wear snakeskin boots or python belts. Model Amii Grove is supporting PETA’s campaign to highlight the plight of exotic animals who are killed for the skins trade by gracing the pages of Page 3 while body-painted to look like a snake. It took six hours for body painter Laura Scimone to transform Amii into a beautiful snake.

Amii was horrified to find out from PETA… Read more.

Bond’s Nemesis Joins Forces to Fight Foie Gras

Wielding a menacing-looking pipe like the kind used for force-feeding birds, renowned actor, writer and director Steven Berkoff – who co-stars in The Tourist alongside Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie – posed for photographs outside Fortnum & Mason today in order to show the public the cruelty inherent in foie gras production. Berkoff, who played villain General Orlov opposite Sir Roger Moore in the 1983 film Octopussy, joins his Bond nemesis Moore in efforts to persuade Read more.

A Special Message from Fiona Phillips

Fiona Phillips, like millions of other people across the UK, is looking forward to Christmas, but one thing that you won’t find on her holiday table is turkey – or any other kind of meat. That’s because the Mirror columnist and former GMTV presenter went vegetarian many years ago, and she’s never looked back. So when PETA asked Phillips to narrate its hard-hitting new video about the suffering of turkeys who are raised and killed for food, she leapt at the chance.

“Christmas should be a time of peace and goodwill for… Read more.

Lettuce Ladies Take On Gaga

PETA’s lovely Lettuce Ladies were very visible outside Madame Tussauds today, handing out tasty vegan sausages to people queuing up for the unveiling of the new Lady Gaga wax figure. To celebrate the event, the famous wax museum offered free admission to the first 100 people who showed up to the event dressed like the rocker.

Expecting to see some attendees emulating Lady Gaga’s notorious meat dress, which she wore at the MTV Video Music Awards, the Lettuce Ladies decided to head on over to the event and… Read more.

Ireland’s Suzanne McCabe Sticks To Her Anti-Fur Principles

Beautiful Suzanne McCabe may be one of Ireland’s most sought-after models, but she’s not prepared to compromise when it comes to her anti-fur principles.

You may remember that Suzanne starred in PETA’s first Irish “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” ad, which was released last year to coincide with the announcement that fur farming will be banned in the Republic of Ireland within three years. The ad was jointly released by PETA and the wonderful Animal Rights Action Network.

Well, vegetarian Suzanne has been Read more.
