PETA Adopts a Bear as a Wedding Gift for the Royal Couple

PETA has sent Prince William and Kate Middleton a unique gift that we hope will give the Royal couple paws for thought: the adoption of an adult black bear named Mama Bear from Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary in Ontario, Canada, on the couple’s behalf.

In Canada, mother bears are routinely killed so that their skins can be fashioned into the ceremonial caps worn by The Queen’s Guards. Hunters often destroy entire families, as orphaned cubs, unable to fend for themselves, typically fall victim to predation or starve to death. Many bears who… Read more.

It’s ‘Strictly No Bearskins’ for PETA Supporter Ann Widdecombe

This year’s Strictly Come Dancing contestants have been announced, and there’s no question who PETA staffers will be backing! Former MP Ann Widdecombe has been a staunch supporter of PETA’s Unbearable Cruelty campaign. At the House of Commons in 2008, Ann presented shocking undercover bear-hunting footage from PETA US to a room packed with media and government figures and called on the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to end the country’s use of bear fur for The Queen’s Guards’… Read more.

It’s Time for the MoD to Embrace Faux Fur

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) recently released a statement claiming that for the past several years, the skins used to make The Queen’s Guards’ distinctive bearskin caps now come from brown bears, not black ones. Sometime during the course of PETA’s campaign, they say, a switch was made.

One might well ask, “So what?” It is unlikely that bears care what colour they are when they are being shot for their hides, and it makes no difference to PETA if the MoD are using the skins from black, brown or,… Read more.

A Thousand Balloons for Bears

When my alarm clock went off at 5:30 last Saturday morning, I woke up smiling – not because waking up before the birds makes me happy but because I was heading out to Trooping the Colour (The Queen’s official birthday celebration) armed with 1,000 bear balloons and a whole lot of helium.

Allow me to elaborate. Trooping the Colour is an impressive display of pageantry in which more than 1,400 officers and men on parade march to the beat of 400 musicians, all in honour of the Sovereign’s birthday. This is an… Read more.

Corrie’s Kate Ford Bares All For Bears!

If, like me, you are a massive Coronation Street fan you will have been thrilled when it was announced that the evil Tracy Barlow was set to return to cause more chaos for the residents of Weatherfield.  In real life, the actress Kate Ford really is the extreme opposite of Tracy – especially when it comes to animals. Kate first supported PETA back in 2005 when she starred in an anti-fur ad for us. Not long afterwards Kate left Corrie to pursue various… Read more.
