Two Facing Prosecution Over Abattoir Abuse

Two former Cheale Meats employees are facing prosecution for cruelty-to-animals charges following an undercover investigation by Animal Aid that exposed horrific abuse inflicted on pigs. Defra had initially refused to use the video footage to bring the perpetrators to justice, but after they were stripped of their prosecution powers, the case was able to move forward.

Piotr Andrzej Wasiuta and Kelly Smith will appear in court next month. Wasiuta faces three charges of causing unnecessary suffering to a pig by applying a lit cigarette to the animal’s snout. Smith faces four … Read more.

Another UK Abattoir Caught Out Inflicting Harrowing Abuse

Barely a year after Animal Aid first released harrowing footage taken inside UK abattoirs, they have uncovered more abuse. A&G Barber of Purleigh in Essex, one of the abattoirs at the centre of Animal Aid’s undercover investigation, has been forced to close down following the release of shocking video footage. Among other abuses, the video shows workers improperly stunning pigs, leaving the animals to regain consciousness and experience the full horror of slaughter. After seeing the video, A&G Barber’s biggest customer, a German sausage manufacturer, cancelled its contract.

Animal Aid’s investigation revealed that at six out of the seven abattoirs they filmed, workers routinely and … Read more.

Undercover Investigation Shows Harrowing Footage Inside UK Slaughterhouses

Although the UK has seen a significant drop in meat consumption since 2005, more than 893 million animals are still killed for meat each year in the country, often in horrific ways. Shocking footage taken by Animal Aid has revealed numerous cases of horrendous animal abuse in UK slaughterhouses, two of which could now face prosecution.

The appalling footage shows slaughterhouse workers repeatedly shocking terrified pigs on the ears, snout and body. Workers were also seen throwing and beating screaming and terrified animals and kicking them in … Read more.
