The “first lady of punk” wants Fortnum & Mason to “get with the times”.

Harvey Nichols’ Major Fashion Faux Pas

UPDATE: Fashion director, Paula Reed, has now resigned.
After receiving confirmation in a meeting with Harvey Nichols that Reed was singlehandedly responsible for breaking the department store’s strict decade-long policy against selling fur, we hope her resignation will pave the way for the reinstatement of the store’s previous, well-respected policy. “After you rip their claws and their tails off … they’ll crawl across the floor and everything.”

There are things that no sentient animal should ever have to endure – things such as being torn limb from limb while conscious, being slammed face-first onto a spike, being tossed into a bin to die slowly or being boiled alive.

Civet Coffee = A Sip of Cruelty

Kopi luwak coffee is made from the beans of coffee berries that have been eaten and excreted by the Asian palm civet, a small, shy nocturnal mammal. If you think that sounds unappetising, wait until you hear how cruel it is.

To make the inhumane coffee, civets are often captured from the wild and locked up in small, barren, filthy cages. They’re deprived of everything that’s essential to their well-being, including exercise and a spacious, natural environment.

Just Don’t Book It – Travel Companies Refuse to Promote Bullfighting

Progress! Thomas Cook and Brittany Ferries have agreed to implement a formal policy against promoting bullfighting and the Running of the Bulls after receiving letters from PETA.

As we pointed out to the companies, following the bull run – during which many bulls and spectators have been injured – the animals are tormented and killed in cruel and archaic bullfights. This year, several people were seriously hurt in Pamplona and a 16-year-old boy was gored to death during a bull run in northern Spain.

Live-Animal Trauma Training Needs to End

Did you know that the British Army “trains” personnel by making them shoot, stab and break the bones of live pigs? These barbaric exercises go on despite the fact that humane alternatives exist, and they appear to violate EU law.

We’ve just appealed to European Commission Director-General for Environment Karl Falkenberg urging him to launch an investigation into deadly medical trauma training on animals that is being conducted by the militaries of Denmark, Norway, Poland and the UK.

Just Another Day in the Office

PETA’s always had a diverse workforce. But one staffer in particular stands out – our campaign goose! You might have seen him before, taking our campaign against foie gras to the streets and standing up for all his fellow birds who are being tortured on French farms.

PHOTOS: Force-Feeding Outside Fortnum & Mason

Could you eat 20 kg of corn in one day? That’s the human equivalent of what ducks and geese typically have rammed down their throats every single day on foie gras farms.

It can be hard to visualise exactly how much food this is, so we decided to stage a graphic demo that illustrates both the grotesque quantities of grain that birds are forced to swallow and the violent way in which force-feeding occurs.
