Yvonne Taylor - Celebrity Liaison

Yvonne Taylor works on celebrity projects for PETA UK. A vegetarian from the age of 12, she went vegan 17 years ago after coming across a PETA US magazine whilst volunteering at an animal charity in her hometown of Edinburgh. Soon after, she spent almost a year interning at PETA US and then went on to spend several years working for other UK animal rights groups before starting at PETA UK in 2004 on campaigns. She later dressed as a Lettuce Lady in subzero temperatures in Kazakhstan and was deported from China for an "I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" demo.

Yvonne now has a slightly more subdued but no less varied job organising all of PETA UK's celebrity work, including ad shoots for photos and the recording of narration. Through her work for PETA, Yvonne has been lucky enough to have met many of her heroes, including Morrissey, Ricky Gervais, Kate Winslet, Simon Cowell, Sir Paul McCartney, Russell Brand and Sir Roger Moore. She still can't quite believe that reading Heat magazine is part of her job description!

Speak Out for ALL Ocean Inhabitants on World Oceans Day

June 8 is World Oceans Day. Whilst many people will be speaking out for the protection of whales, dolphins and porpoises – which we obviously commend – isn’t it time that we also showed compassion towards all of the oceans’ inhabitants?

Scientists have determined that lobsters not only feel pain but also perhaps feel pain even more so than humans would in similar situations. According to invertebrate zoologist Jaren G. Horsley, “The lobster does not have an autonomic nervous system that puts it into a state … Read more.

World Environment Day: Green Means Vegan!

Sadly there are still “environmentalists” out there who like to talk the talk but not walk the walk when it comes to their diet. To mark World Environment Day on 5 June, here a few nuggets of information to put to any meat-, dairy- and egg-eating “environmentalists” you happen to know:

Moshi Moshi, Brighton’s best loved sushi restaurant, has always been popular with vegans because of its many fish- and meat-free options. Moshi Moshi’s owner says the move was prompted by the company’s firm belief in “restorative eating” and that “[o]ne way we can do this is by decreasing our reliance on animal proteins and to eat … Read more.

Much-loved wildlife expert Bill Oddie made an unexpected appearance at Fortnum & Mason’s Christmas window unveiling today dressed as Santa Claus to call on Fortnum & Mason to be good, for goodness’ sake, and stop selling foie gras! You Me At Six Tells Fans ‘Breeders Kill Shelter Dogs’ Chances’

With the release of their new album Sinners Never Sleep we wanted to show you the ad that You Me At Six starred in for peta2, a great pro-adoption ad with the band. You can check out an interview with the band members here.

Bill Oddie Left Twitching Over Fortnum & Mason’s Cormorant Cock-Up

Read Bill Oddie's letter to Beverley Aspinall in full here.

Beloved twitcher Bill Oddie has an ornithology lesson for Fortnum & Mason Managing Director Beverley Aspinall, (or Beverley ‘KnowsBuggerAll’ amirite?) who, in a meeting with PETA earlier this year, attempted to justify F&M’s continued sale of foie gras by equating its production – in which ducks and geese are force-fed via a feeding pipe rammed down their throats several times a day until their livers become diseased and enlarged – with cormorants who swallow whole fish in the wild! In a … Read more.

PETA friend, super-vegan and animal saviour Pamela Anderson has written to European Commissioner for Health and Consumer Policy John Dalli urging him to honour the original 2013 deadline for banning the sale of cosmetics in the EU that have been tested on animals.

In her letter, which can be read in full here, Pamela states, “I love cosmetics, but there’s no reason for animals to suffer for lip gloss and eye-liner; those cruel tests are from another era”. She goes on to say, “Today, there are effective and 100 percent humane … Read more.

British Bollywood Star Jiah Khan Goes Wild in New PETA Ad

Crouched in a cage wearing a leopard-print bodysuit next to the words “Wild Animals Belong in the Wild. Boycott Zoos”, Bollywood beauty Jiah Khan stars in a brand-new ad for PETA to spread the word that animals suffer in captivity.
