Peter Dinklage: Don’t Pay for Cruelty

In Game of Thrones, Tyrion Lannister may face his share of bloodshed and violence, but in real life, Peter Dinklage, the actor who plays him, is a real softie. As a longtime vegetarian, Peter actively abstains from violence through his diet, saving many animals’ lives a year.

In a new video for PETA US, he urges meat-eaters to face their food and reflect on the harmful effects of the meat, egg and dairy industries.

If you found watching the video harrowing, imagine what it feels like for animals who endure this suffering for a lifetime. As Peter says:

“The images that you’re about to see might make you want to turn away, but this is what you pay for every time you buy meat, eggs and dairy products”.

Tens of millions of people around the world are making the same compassionate choice as Peter and opting for a plant-based diet. Thanks to the wide variety of vegan food available in restaurants and supermarkets these days, there’s really no excuse not to put your principles into practice.

If you were affected by any of the scenes in the video but still consume animals, please do what you know is right. We’re here to help:

  1. This video is horrific. Please dont eat meat.

I need to have vegetarian recipes if I am to omit meat from my diet. Are any animals slaughtered humanely? We always buy free range eggs.

    • avatar Soraya Aslam says:

No Irene Crosthwaite, no animal is humanely slaughtered. Please contact PETA (lots of contact details at the bottom of this page) for free recipes. A life for 10 minutes on your palate is not a good choice, cruelty free is a much better option. Try substituting soya meat, tofu or beans in place of meat. I wish you well on your journey.

    its genocide

  4. avatar john yates says:

I struggle to find the words to describe my feelings when I witness such inhumanity, why is such an advanced species so primitive & barbaric in its treatment of the creatures we share I repeat share this planet with. No matter how self important we consider ourselves we have absolutely no right to commit such unacceptable cruelty to any other living being.

  5. avatar Colin says:

A brave video, which nevertheless doesn’t even attempt cover the bizarre ways that we kill animals with a religious aspect, such as halal or kosha.

It seems that Peter Dinklage is as honourable in real life as his character is in Game of Thrones.

    Wish I was as honourable.

  6. avatar sara says:

iv been a veggie for 40yrs I didn’t need videos to let me know it was cruel but if this would help people to face the truth then These videos should be shown on TV ,
Animals have feelings and they are mammals like us :(

  7. avatar matthew says:

I hate animals being treated so badly and I believe this ain’t the way it should be done in these videos. But you are only showing the most horrible side of the spectrum, I would say nearly all the slaughter houses in the UK are good with animal welfare and do what is right for the animals. Peta I believe in what your doing is right but people have the right to choose weather to have eggs diary meat and fish and not feel guilty about it. Show how it’s done properly in a UK or hopefully USA if they are the same standards . Find out where your products conform and if there not from a well known good farm or slaughter house where animals and treated fairly then don’t buy from them it’s that simple. You don’t have to be a tree hugging veggie that only walks burns candles and only eats plants cause this is the 21st century and you do have lives but just take the time to find out about animal products

  8. avatar Victor says:

theyre about to die anyway, what the big deal :D the end justifies the means ;)

    • avatar Lauren says:

the big deal is that humans think that we are in some way so much more important than animals. if you were going to die for, something else to eat you, would you rather just die quickly…..or die a slow painful death after being kept in tiny little cages, or being force fed? i think you can quite clearly see what ‘THE BIG DEAL’ is. yes humans were created to eat meat, but we were also created with feelings and a conscience. please dont write things like what you just wrote, especially on a page like this where people are fighting for animals rights-thanks

    • avatar Lauren says:

animals should not have to suffer…..

  9. avatar Aaron Bunting says:

A very powerful message. It is time for people to face what they are doing, most people would not be able to accept this level of cruelty…If only there was some way to broadcast itthat would ensure most people would see it whether they want to or not. The people who find this hard to watch are the ones that need to see it….

  10. avatar Heidi McCaffrey says:

This video is awful! but just because you stop buying meat won’t stop the animals from being killed! There are thousands of animals killed in the abattoirs that don’t even get to the supermarket shelves!

    • avatar Kiki says:

Actually no Heidi, if everyone stopped buying meat, the industry would be destroyed. No money would go towards the meat industry, thus no animals would be slaughtered mercilessly, and this whole thing would be over. This video might display some “awful” content, but the overall message is anything but awful. It needs to be shown to everyone.

  11. avatar Lauren says:

i couldnt even watch all of this. it is so sad that animals are treated like this. im very proud to be a veggie after watching this!

  12. avatar Jon says:

People keep trying to rationalize this torture or even rationalize their meat and dairy consumption.
I currently eat dairy and eggs and I know that that is because I was raised to eat these things and would miss it. That’s just selfish of me.
I’ve been vegetarian for 25 years due to a video like this but it’s time to make the change with leather and dairy.
If you feel guilty then that’s a normal human response. Don’t fight the guilt or blame the video and peter. It’s guilt coming from the simple fact that it’s shameful behavior for the masters of earth making all “lesser” creatures the slaves.
