What’s Not Under Helen Flanagan’s Christmas Tree

She’s been called the “Sexiest Woman in the UK” and is always making headlines, but today Helen Flanagan took some time to help PETA highlight how every coat, collar and cuff made of animal fur is a product of immense animal suffering.

Helen caused a scene in London, where she braved the December chill, posing as a sexy Santa next to the Covent Garden Christmas tree and encouraging shoppers to leave fur off their holiday wish lists.

“Fur is cruel and gruesome, and it belongs squarely in Christmas’ past”, said Helen. “With all the wonderful, stylish fur-free designs available today, it’s never been easier to celebrate with Christmas gifts that are as kind as they are chic.”

On fur farms, animals spend their entire lives in tiny, filthy cages before workers kill them by breaking their necks or electrocuting them. In China – the world’s largest fur exporter – some animals who are killed for their fur, including millions of cats and dogs, are even skinned alive.

Many top fashion designers, including Calvin Klein, Stella McCartney, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and Vivienne Westwood, are 100 per cent fur-free. Keep off the naughty list, and make sure that your holiday shopping is full of Christmas cheer for humans and animals alike.

  1. You are doing yourself so much harm by promoting Helen Flannigan. I love the sentiments but this girl has NO CREDIBILITY and is nothing but a laughing stock. She will do ANYTHING to get herself publicity.
WHY oh why cant you use someone we can respect?
There are many people who would be delighted to promote PETA– give us someone we can look up to and respect.

      Hi Carole,

Our work with celebrities gives fans, reporters, and the public in general the chance to see and read about an important animal issue because a high-profile celebrity cared enough to use his or her time and image to help with one of our campaigns. In our star-obsessed culture, enlisting a celebrity’s help to get the facts out often draws more interest than the facts alone. It helps us get our message out to different demographics who may not be aware of the fur trade and its cruelty to animals. So even if Helen isn’t your cup of tea, I hope you can appreciate that thanks to her, our fur-free message is all over the news, helping to reach UK shoppers at one of the busiest shopping times of the year.

  2. Create a happy world of fashion and dump fur trim and fur coats … trim is such a hideous waste of an animal when we have as a civilisation created fake fur!

    Move forward.

    Evolve with kindness.

    Sally

  3. Yes, it is all over the news for the wrong reason. Helen is a laughing stock,(ask around) and her promoting your organisation is demeaning the whole thing. People don’t look at this and say – oh we must support Peta, they look at this and say— what is that publicity hungry girl doing now to promote HERSELF? She will do ANYTHING for publicity – she has nothing else to offer.
I personally have nothing against Helen but I do care for Peta and am saddened that you have to resort to a girl who is famous for taking her clothes off instead of having someone with credibility.
There are many real stars out there who would be happy to promote Peta.

People, PETA is doing the RIGHTthing.

See the bigger picture – you my not like ‘certain celebs’ her Flanagan is providing valuable access to the type of people who would ordinarily never know or care about such issues.

    Well done PETA.

  7. Carole, stop whinging. Anything or anyone that is going to help stop the bloody fur trade is good in my eyes!!!

  8. It’s okay. I wouldn’t worry about a photo-model’s credibility when she’s doing something entirely good. Evolution hasn’t stopped with the invention of the wheel, and in a very short while all humans will have to be vegetarians, there is no option, and people will read about the dark ages, the early years of the 21rst century, in shock and horror about the fact that humans still murdered innocent animals with beautiful souls only to turn them into flesh-food/meat-products. Even animal-haters like Jamie Oliver will have to admit that the carbon footprint for producing meat-products is at least ten times (10 x) higher than just having an entirely vegetarian human race. The politicians in power are no good people, they want to drive humanity on the highway to hell, destroy our planet Earth as fast as possible. It is sad, and it is biblical, because the masses look up to the creatures instead of to the creator. Yours sincerely, Mr. Deian Mountbatten, Basement Flat Rear, 189 Sandgate Road, Folkestone, Kent, CT20 2HJ, GB.

  9. As Christmas is now over, fur-free should count for every single day of the new year 2014, too, not only for last Christmas. Happy new year 2014 to all vegetarians. God bless you all.
