Ingrid’s Naked Truth

PETA UK’s founder, Ingrid E Newkirk, hosted an event in London on Sunday, in which she gave her acclaimed “Naked Truth” talk.

The talk was emceed by long-time PETA friend Sadie Frost and attended by more than 150 PETA UK supporters, activists and friends. Ingrid shared her electrifying thoughts about animals, our relationship with them and how that relationship can and should evolve, along with an overview of PETA UK’s triumphs over the past 20 years.

In addition, a PETA UK supporter who has gone above and beyond for animals was recognised. Jenya Emets received an award for her help in bringing PETA’s campaign against fur to the country that buys more of it than any other in the world – Russia. Thanks to Jenya, a series of hard-hitting ads appeared on Moscow’s streets, a bold move that made people in Russia consider the appalling cruelty that lies behind their animal-skins garments.

Here are a few photos from the event:

The best part of the evening was the feedback from attendees. While many PETA supporters are long-time animal advocates and vegans, some were not there yet. But Ingrid’s talk inspired them to consider the consequences of their diet and consumer habits. “[T]hanks for opening my eyes! I’ve gone vegan now” and “now my mother-in-law … has pledged to go vegan too!” were just two of the tweets sent to us that evening.

In her talk, Ingrid made many people realise just how easy it is to stand up for animals simply by doing nothing – not eating them, not wearing them, not paying to see them perform and not contributing to their suffering in any way.
