Here’s the Rest of Your Foie Gras

DSC_0167

The limp, blood-spattered corpse of a dead goose serves as an upsetting reminder of where foie gras really comes from. Those who purchase the repugnant pâté from Fortnum & Mason – one of the few British retailers that still sells it – would perhaps rather not think about the force-feeding and animal abuse that are its chief ingredients, but today, PETA volunteers felt duty-bound to give them a little aide-mémoire.

The glamorous ladies made for an incongruous sight as they rocked up outside Fortnum & Mason’s Piccadilly store in little black dresses, holding up the gory “dead birds”* alongside signs reading, “Force-Fed and Massacred for Foie Gras”. Fortnum & Mason has to get its foie gras from France because it’s illegal to produce the foodstuff in the UK because of the cruelty involved in the process.

As our undercover video footage of the company’s supplier’s farm shows, geese shrink away with terror as workers grab them by the neck and shove metal pipes down their throats in order to pump huge amounts of grain into their stomachs for foie gras. The birds are forced to swallow up to 4 pounds of grain and fat every single day – the equivalent of us being made to eat a staggering 20 kilograms of pasta a day. As a result, their livers can swell up to 10 times their normal size, causing the animals intense pain and distress.

It’s time for Fortnum & Mason to stop profiting from this torture. Its claims to represent “British quality” ring hollow, given its sale of this outrageously cruel foreign product. Our campaign against foie gras is gaining momentum, and our numbers are growing. Please join us at StopFortnumAndMasonFoieGrasCruelty.com.

*not actual dead geese – we used uncannily realistic replicas.

    Foie Gras should be illegal!!
If a human doing this to a human would be murder, then how the hell can it be justified for innocent defenseless creatures who, have more right to be on this earth than we do judging on our hideous actions we carry out for our own personal gain. DISGUSTING!!

  11. avatar Marina says:

    Congratulations for you action.

May be you should try to prevent it if you know the place of those farms and show up with the living geese.

    Best regards.

  12. avatar Jon says:

Don’t forget Amazon and Ebay both sell this muck.

Absolutely unnecessary and unacceptable to allow cruelly produced products like this to be sold. It should be illegal as to sell it as well as produce it in the UK.

Disgusting, sadistic and a sad reflection of what humans are capable of.

  13. avatar Joanne Kelly says:

  16. avatar elaine says:

Stuff the people who produce it, I’d be happy to stuff a metal pipe down their throats, force feed them…………see how they like it. The worst face of Humanity having no respect for these birds.

  17. avatar Raphael Anderson says:

  18. avatar Neena says:

Foie Gras should be banned and anybody selling this stuff should be put behind bars.

  19. avatar Brian says:

Foie gras is good! Really you think it should be illegal? And this place isn’t one of the few who serve it! Hundreds of establishments serve this and hundreds of thousands of consumers enjoy it! If you don’t like it then don’t eat it! Who are you guys to tell someone what they can or cannot like! Redic!!

    • avatar tom connors says:

Well, then why don`t you prepare it for yourself, you vile cowardly lowlife?

    • avatar brian says:

actually i do prepare it myself! and any reputable culinary institue you attend as a chef will instruct you on how to do so! so why all the hostility towards one single place when thousands serve it. your not complaining about all the places that serve duck, just the place that serves the foie gras!! either complain about them all in the whole aspect or dont complain at all! you dont see people running around complaining about most of you vegans eating all the plants!

    • avatar Yogesh Khandke says:

Brian this is the 21st century, humans don’t need to murder to survive. Some enjoyed gassing Jews, or whipping blacks, would you allow that too? Plucking brinjals from a brinjal creeper isn’t the same as cutting someone’s throat? Are you intellectually incapable of perceiving the difference? Or is a part of Britain in the stone age?

    • avatar Suvarna Shrotri says:

Brian you are enjoying the food on the cost of these poor, beautiful birds. Thats make the difference.

  20. avatar Judy Cooper says:
