Eat da Veggies Like da Vinci!

Leonardo da Vinci

Happy Birthday, Leonardo!

Leonardo da Vinci was not only a great artist but also a compassionate person who led a cruelty-free lifestyle. He was such an ardent defender of animals that he sometimes bought caged birds from poultry vendors and set them free. He frequently wrote about cruelty to animals in his Notebooks, writing of the meat and dairy industries, “Endless multitudes will have their little [babies] taken from them, ripped open and flayed and most cruelly cut in pieces” and “Of the beasts from whom cheese is made … the milk will be taken from the tiny [babies].”

On his birthday, what better day to follow in da Vinci’s footsteps than by ditching animals from your diet? In addition to saving animals from the horrors of factory farming and a terrifying death in an abattoir, you will feel and look better, too!

The veggie hero also appears in PETA US’ new “Vegetarian Icons” postage stamp collection. Become a veg hero yourself by ordering one of our free vegetarian/vegan starter kits.

Some of the most luminous human minds to have grace the planet were animal loving vegetarians. Da Vinci, Pythagoras, Empedocles, Tolstoy, Schweitzer, Gandhi, John Wesley and British founder of the Salvation Army, William Booth.

I’m not convinced on the “health benefits” of vegetarian or vegan lifestyles. My Great Grandad ate red meat (usually fried in grease) almost every day of his adult life. He lived into his 90s.

Eating too much of anything can be harmful. The key is a little bit of everything in moderation.
