Victory: Intensive Chicken Factory Plans Blocked by Cornwall Council!

Having received more than 1,200 of your objections, Cornwall Council has refused to give permission for a proposed intensive broiler chicken farm to be built in Callington, which would have condemned tens of thousands of birds to a life of misery and suffering.

Every day in the UK, 2.5 million chickens are cruelly slaughtered for meat – that’s 30 deaths every second.

Most chickens killed for meat never see the light of day. Their six-week life is spent inside a foul-smelling windowless shed with 30,000 to 40,000 other chickens, each with only a space the size of an A4 sheet of paper. They never feel sunlight on their backs or breathe fresh air – until they’re crammed into a lorry and hauled off to the abattoir. By the time they are slaughtered, most of them are crippled, their young bones unable to support their distorted bodyweight.

PETA warned Cornwall Council’s planning department that, in addition to being a living nightmare for animals, factory farms have a severely detrimental effect on the environment, both locally and nationally. It is now universally recognised that factory farms are among the main contributors to the greenhouse-gas emissions that cause climate change.

Thanks to PETA supporters and the Cornwall Council, countless chickens will be spared the misery of factory farming.

While we celebrate this victory, the best way to help other animals is to make the compassionate decision to go vegan. Delicious alternatives to most animal-based foods are widely available – including mock chicken and turkey, fake bacon and dairy-free ice cream and cream cheese. The only thing missing is the cruelty. Order your free vegan starter kit today!

Chickens should be pets instead of being ingloriously mistreated and slaughtered for meat.

I am Haroula from Greece and I counldn’ t agree with you more! I ‘m 32 years old and for the last 22 years i have hens, roosters and ducks for pets. I love them so much! People don’ t know how clever and affectionate animals they are! If you give them love of course…

I wish someday people understand that…

There is absolutely no reason in this 21st century to be still eating meat when we are spoilt with so many alternatives, the choice is endless. It doesnt make any sense to continue eating meat knowing that. Perhaps it could be that people need to be educated more,i think that must be the answer, most people are probably unaware of what goes on in factory farms and science labs,if after being informed of what goes on and people still choose to eat meat, then they will be the ones who suffer in the end,and so they should!

  7. avatar Podge says:

Chickens are beautiful animals with truly endearing personalities, if they’re given a chance to live as nature intended.
No creatures deserve to be treated the way that factory hens are – except perhaps those who choose to keep them in such horrific conditions.
