Herd of ‘Cows’ Up in Arms Over Dairy Factory Farm

PETA supporters greeted members of the Powys County Council as they arrived at the town hall in Welshpool to discuss a proposal to expand Leighton Farm into an industrialised dairy farm with 1,000 cows. They were there to tell council members that if they want to keep pollution and the abuse of animals out of Powys, they’ll immediately vote down this proposal.

Dairy factory farms deny cows everything that’s natural and important to them and relegate them to a life of suffering and an early death. The cows are forced to produce unnaturally high yields of milk, pushing their bodies to exhaustion. They are repeatedly impregnated, only to have their calves torn away from them within days of birth. Female calves spend their first few weeks in tiny stalls, and at 15 months old, they enter the same hellish cycle as their mothers. Male calves, who are deemed surplus waste in the dairy industry, are either shot at birth or sold to the veal industry. Cows have a natural life span of about 20 years or more, but most in the dairy industry are killed between the ages of 4 and 7 years. Additionally, dairy factory farms are notorious polluters, fouling the air, land and water.

Help stop this monstrous factory farm from being erected. Please send a polite letter to the Powys County Council voicing your objection to the application.

It’s high time to stop exploiting, mistreating and killing cows and all bovines for their flesh and dairy milk. Today, I was happy to read about the badger cull being postponed in England. Let’s stop massacring cows, pigs, chickens, lambs, rabbits and rodents too !

I will never touch dairy again until you bloody murderers start treating them properly … I am just the beginning – justice will prevail!!!

there is absolutely no need for this type of farming, take the public a walk through the truth of it all and they will too be objecting. leave our animals alone, stop mass producing what there is no need for.

  4. avatar Stephen Phillips says:

We need to protect our vulnerable creatures!!

Cows don’t have a voice! Let’s speak up for them!

  6. avatar DeeJayy says:

We are not living in stone age anymore. If we don’t act now, we would be the sufferers. If a man is illtreated, the guilty is punished..but if an animal is tortured, no action is taken against humans.why these double standards? Meat/ Milk/ Eggs does no good to human body. Stop killing or exploiting animals at least now.

  7. once again, a money making scheme with no thought for the animals they are exploiting.the human race is interfering with nature far too much, and nature has a way of fighting back and spitting in your eye . cattle are sentient intelligent creatures, and should be in fields and surrounded by fresh air, not shut in factory farms surrounded by concrete. shame on farmers who even consider this.

    Stop that!

  9. avatar Ann Stacher says:

This is cruelty with no question about it. This should be stopped.

  10. avatar gloria percy says:

This is pure greed with no thought whatsover for the cows welfare.

These atrocious Factory Farms are just EVIL like the people who thought of them.

It was a great demo! Thanks to Abi from PETA for organising it. Councillors voted against the plans – and it will now be up to the planning commitee – meeting early next year I think.

I really am ashamed to be a human being a lot of the time….

It’s very mysterious as to why it is so difficult to get people to relate the love they feel for their pets, dog, cat etc., to the terrible abuse that is carried out to put milk in their tea and on their cornflakes. What can we do people seem to have a mental block to this, if every dog and cat owner cried out for cows there would be a change over night. Makes me wonder if owning a dog is a purely self action.

  16. avatar Lorna Grundy says:

How can people think this is acceptable. Do you think it is fair to keep a cow permanently pregnant, only to have each calf taken away almost immediately and sent to it’s death? ALL so YOU can have milk with your breakfast or in your tea, milk that is meant for calves, not humans……. why not try rice milk or one of the other alternatives which are far more natural for we humans. Many people are dairy intolerant and they do very nicely without depriving the cows of the comfort of feeding their calves and the calves of some time to enjoy their mothers. People who think it is acceptable to treat cows in this way have something missing which is worrying as to what else they find acceptable!!

  17. avatar peter says:

we should all count our blessings that we are not cows now,for the why we treat cows and other animals is appalling and the no brainer comment i read from Bessy just saying moo moo moo,she sounds like a cow and should be a cow, then she would not be so arrogant.

  18. [...] lactose intolerant, so a saucer of milk is likely to make them ill (as well as involving cruelty to cows). They are, however, partial to snacks such as chopped peanuts and [...]
