Here’s the Rest of Your Fur Coat

With London Fashion Week starting tomorrow, PETA activists hit New Bond Street to remind shoppers that there’s nothing fashionable about wearing the skin of tortured animals:

Three models in black dresses and spiked heels held up the corpses of dead foxes, confronting fur-wearers with the rest of their fur coat.

Animals on fur farms spend their entire lives confined to cramped, filthy cages before they are beaten, gassed or anally electrocuted and are sometimes skinned while they are still alive. Designers such as Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger and Vivienne Westwood, who all have boutiques in Mayfair, have publicly sworn off fur because they know that fur is only beautiful on its original owners.

With so many stylish alternatives to fur available, there’s no excuse to harm a hair on a fox or any animals’ head. Learn more about fur and let designers know that you don’t support a lifetime of suffering and a cruel and painful death in the name of fashion.

This is so unnecessary surely anyone with common sence knows that fur looks 100% better on animals has nobody got a heart who skins animals ?

  2. avatar Lesley Payne says:

I hate this, but believe that it is important to show the public how horrible the fur trade is both in this country and abroad; we must make a stand against any form of cruelty to animals and this is barbaric.

  3. avatar John Carmody says:

    Love it. Well done PETA.

  4. avatar Brien Comerford says:

Cruelty-free artificial fur is more fashionable, comfortable, warm and inexpensive than animal fur that derives from cruelty and death perpetrated by human sadists.

I can’t find any information about where PETA got these skinned foxes from. I think this should definitely be explained in this blog as it looks like, to the average viewer, PETA have somehow ordered these skinned foxes. I’m not criticising, I just think that you should specify where you found the skinned animals as this information is not readily available.

Thanks for the comment Daisy. A wildlife rescue and ambulance service donated them to PETA. They were patients that sadly didn’t make it.

  6. avatar Matthew says:

Wow. That sends a message. The visual alone will make you stop and think.

  8. avatar Victoria says:

The fur trade is a disgrace, and outfitters like Burberry, Donna Karan and Harrods should listen to the customers and public that this ‘product’ is old fashioned, brutal and uglifying.

  9. avatar Jason says:

European governments may have banned it but now turn a blind eye to the fact the suffering of the animals is now worse than ever in the countries that have now taken over the trade. A world wide ban seems a long way off. So there needs to be more regulations and constant monitoring of fur farms and the animals from birth to slaughter then I think everyone that wants to purchase an item that includes fur should be informed of the facts about the fur trade and the history of the fur used in that particular item before they purchase it. I am also disappointed that with the internet i.e social networks these days there isn’t more exposure of this to the general public. It seems the majority of people are oblivious to the horrific suffering and death of animals in the fur trade. It has to be the worst experience possible for a living creature and only humans can and do inflict it.

  10. avatar Rhiannon Amy Bloomfield says:

Thank you Peta, harsh but a great way to show the cruelty of the fur industry!

  11. avatar dawn says:

stop this sick barbaric trade in fur NOW

  12. avatar Loraine Herman says:

    Well Done you guys Xxxxxx

  13. avatar Nanci Dagragnano says:

So unecessary and ‘out’ wearing fur coats nowadays, why do some people still make sucha nonsense by insisting on wearing that stuff? They may find excellent -looking ‘fakes’, in case they still want to.But never animals skinning animals alive , let’s stop that, for good.

  14. avatar Cecily Colloby. says:

If that doesn’t stop people wearing fur ,nothing will.Well done,Peta.

  15. avatar Alex Blackburn says:

How much for the fox? Like the time I saw an alligator skin and looked for a price tag to realise its a charity Against fur. I think I’ll go put my fur hat on.

  16. avatar Alex Blackburn says:

Think ill ask them the price of the fox in my fur hat.

  17. Well done. I hope you don’t need to do it again this year, Oh and I wonder if you should add Jasper Conran to the list.
