PETA Protesters Lie Naked in Pamplona to Protest Bullfights

With their naked bodies painted red and black and lying on the ground to spell out the words “Stop Bullfights”, dozens of PETA activists protested against the cruel Running of the Bulls in Pamplona and the deadly bullfights that follow. The protest was held outside the mayor’s residence just two days before the barbaric bull runs are scheduled to start. Other activists, including some from as far away as Australia and the United States, held a banner that read, “Bulls Die a Bloody Death in Pamplona”. PETA’s point? That tormenting animals by chasing them through the streets and later torturing and killing them in the bullring is barbaric and should be banned.

“The people who chase the bulls need to realise that they have blood on their hands, just like the matador who wields the sword”, says PETA Senior Programme Manager Yvonne Taylor. “The vast majority of Spaniards have no interest in bullfighting, and unless Pamplona changes with the times, it could soon find itself culturally isolated in its own land.”

Prior to each run, electric prods and sharp sticks are used to rile the scared and confused bulls. The animals are then goaded down streets and beaten, only to end up in the bullring, where they are repeatedly stabbed with daggers and eventually the matador’s sword. Many bulls drown in their own blood when the sword only pierces their lungs. Earlier this year, a ban on bullfighting in the entire region of Catalonia went into effect. Many more Spanish cities and towns are also declaring their opposition to bullfighting.

You can help stop the bloody bullfights by taking action here.

ES EXTRAÑO QUE UN PAÍS TAN AVANZADO PERMITA ESTE TIPO DE DIVERSIÓN SE QUE ES TRADICIÓN , PERO EN QUE BENEFICIA AL ANIMAL Y A LOS HUMANOS . SE DEBE HACER CONCIENCIA , SON PUEBLOS DE MENTE AVANZADA , ES UNA LÁSTIMA QUE ESTOS TOROS SEAN CREADOS CON UN FIN SIN SENTIDO, PIENSEN LO QUE ESTÁN HACIENDO ,CREO QUE EN LA MAYOR PARTE DEL PLANETA LO MIRAMOS CON TRISTEZA.SON BELLOS ANIMALES QUE SE PUEDEN DISFRUTAR DE OTRA MANERA, NO TENGO NADA EN CONTRA DE LAS TRADICIONES DE CADA PAÍS , PERO A ESTAS ALTURAS VER ALGO ASÍ EN BUEN SENTIDO , NO SUENA BIEN , HAGAMOS CONCIENCIA EN DONDE ESTÁ EL BENEFICIO

:’-( it’s days like this when i feel ashamed to be top of the ‘food chain’ – because this isn’t for food, or survival, it’s for fun :-( my heart & tears go out to all the bulls literally running for their lives tonight, probably unaware that no matter what they do they are going to be slaughtered in a crowd entertaining massacre anyway. this is BLOODY sickening </3

  10. avatar Joanne says:

Please stop this dreadful act! If the bulls could speak they would be pleading with you!

  11. avatar Sharon Almey says:

this is barbaric a disgrace of the human race

  12. avatar Claire says:

This needs to be stopped now ! It horrible and un human how anyone can do this or watch it. its sick and cruel, i think this world is just unfair all the poor animals that have to be put through this cruelty for un educated people like this that do these horrible acts! Well done PETA !x

  13. avatar Nigel Greaves says:

A truly marvellous effort by all those activists prepared to make such an effective point! Bullfighting is a sick, obscene activity and MUST be banned.

  14. it is unbeievable n this day & age in the 21st century that this sort of barbaric practice still continues…it is equal to bear baiting & gladiator fights etc. Why does it continue? tradition! It is absolutely disgusting & disgraceful that as humans people not only endorese this & excuse it under the banner of ‘tradition’ but also actualy pay money to watch it- makes me sick to even think.

  15. How much money do they make from this cruelty? These are evil people to allow this barbarity. What can we expect from a nation that does nothing to stop the hunters from hanging their dogs from trees and their king who shoots elephants. Throw them out of the EU until they learn to treat all animals with respect. And they are a Catholic country. Why aren’t their religious leaders speaking out?

  16. avatar Grady says:

This so called 98% catholic country thinks that God won’t forget the horrors these spectators and matadors do to the bulls. There will be an eternal hell waiting for these so called hypocrite catholics. May they suffer a long and lasting pain, torment and torture like they imposed on the helpless defenseless bulls.

  17. avatar andrea catleton says:

please just stop this evil doing.

  18. It takes courage for them to do what they are doing, but they bare all because they understand the cruelty of bullfighting. I thank them because many of us cannot be there to protest. If only we can get the youth in the country to join in the protests because the old people have grown up with this cruelty and call it tradition. The youth will see the cruelty and put a stop to this torture of bulls.

  19. avatar Bob Deakin says:

The only positive from bullfighting is that it sorts out the compassionate intelligent folks from the ignorant and cruelty driven idiots who belong in the past. Come on you supporters of this barbaric practice – get into the 21st century! There is absolutely no justification for treating bulls or any other creatures so badly.

  20. avatar jose fonseca says:

cruelty begets cruelty. Please lets empathise and feel the pain
we humans deal out to animals that have no voice. How can we change the
    world unless we change ourselves.

  21. avatar Angel says:

Ashamed to be spaniard like those barbarians.

  22. avatar sarah conway says:

this barbaric practice must be stopped immediately. its cruel beyond words and as for the people who enjoy it, they must be either mad or bad.

  23. avatar Martine Vaffier says:

Shame on humanity for letting this horror go on!

  24. please please stop this murdering of bulls….i can not understand how this can be entertaining to watch as a bull is being slowly killed!!!!!!!!! an eye for an eye….some day all will turn around to this killers

  25. avatar toni harrison-kahn says:

this is the 21st Century…..STOP BULLFIGHTING AND THE RUNNING OF THE BULLS IN PAMPLONA

  26. avatar Grady says:

This people as well as others in countries including our own call themselves a CIVILIZED Nation that perform cruel, vicious, unconscionable acts of violence on the “WAR AGAINST ANIMALS” that includes: meat eaters, fur wearers, animal sports, vivisection, animal experimentation, hunting, fishing, trapping, animal sacrifices, etc. Go VEGCON pronounced veegcon which means VEGetarian CONscious. VEGCONISM is the “Conscious Choice”

  27. avatar Vicky says:

It’s essential that people do not go to these violations and tell friends/family to explain to their tourist representative why they will not take part in this bloody spectacle. Also write polite letters or e-mail to tourist boards to express dispproval.

  28. avatar Dennis Kelly says:

Bullfighting is barbaric and primitive and reflects extremely poorly on Spain’s international image. This disgusting spectacle belongs to another age – ban it now.

Entertainment at the cruel inhumanity to animals just for the purpose of entertainment; is sickening and grotesque.

  30. avatar Roy Baker says:

This was a magnificent effort to get the message across, one wonders what else can be done, unfortunately rural communities will not release their grip upon seeing and using animals as a commodity to be exploited for profit. Well done and thank you all involved.

  31. avatar chander kumar soni says:

    please stop this cruel game.

  32. avatar Candida Sa Dantas says:

It is not just in Spain that this horrendous sadistic torture of animals (both bulls and horses) is allowed. France also gives the green light to bullfighting in parts of its territory. “The Spectator” published a letter I wrote to condemn this barbaric spectacle in its edition of 21st July 2012.
Please also protest as much as possible against the presence of “Club Taurino of London”, which promotes bullfighting in the U.K. Their email is ctl.secretarygen@btinternet.com
If animals were treated in the U.K. the way they are treated in Spain and France in bullfights the perpetrators of this cruelty would be prosecuted, fined and put in prison. It is outrageous that Club Taurino of London functions in this country.

  34. avatar fiammetta says:

this orror must go on forever

  35. This is a horrendous and blood-thirsty antiquated activity. Humanity should instead honor and respect the Beautiful Bull, who shows us how to act with the dignity of power. PLEASE HELP RAISE THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF HUMANITY, instead of plundering us deeper into the cruel violence of mindless savagery.

  36. avatar kimiko yamamoto says:

We have to wake people up about cruelty to animals!

  37. avatar Mica says:

Yes I agree with the comments on this matter. This is why I never go on holiday especially eastern Europe. My life is hell
and miserable just thinking the cruelty man inflicts on animals, what right have we to cause pain and suffering to defenceless animals. It makes me sick. Go to hell Spain, France , Greece, Turkey for cruelty to dogs and cats. All those who have been cruel to animals I hope suffer in hell.Gods revenge should be a big tsunami, better to die this way than being killed by an evil sick man!

sad if humans need to see blood to be entertained – what to say….

  39. avatar kasia skwarcan says:

why are humans so brutal and deranged; no ‘sport’ that includes an animal is entertaining or challenging or necessary! stop using ALL animals for entertainment/medical research/work/food/clothes- humans are suppose to have higher consciousness and take care of the more vulnerable- that’s what civilised and evolved person should aim at, not this! i will never take my family to spain as long as this continues.

  40. avatar lucia fabbo says:

THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON LONG ENOUGH AND IT NEEDS TO END. I THOUGHT SPAIN ARE SUPPOSE TO BE EDUCATED PEOPLE NOT BRUTAL LOW LIFES. HOW IS THIS ENTERTAINING, ARE WE BACK IN THE ROMAN DAYS? WHAT COMES AROUND GOES AROUND! GOD DID NOT CREATE THESE CREATURES FOR THIS!
    END THIS HORROR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    UGLY, UGLY, UGLY!

  41. avatar Gretchen Glanco says:

Animals were not put on earth to entertain us. If someone finds this activity exciting, then perhaps they should imagine themselves as the bull in the ring. Human beings do not have the right to inflict pain on any animal or human being for their own excitement and pleasure. Bullfighting and the running of the bulls are cruel activities that need to stop now. I will continue to fight to end this cruelty and encourage all others as well to never attend such horrific events! Thank you to all who take a stand to fight against cruelty to bulls.

  42. avatar Alicia says:

“Spain;” what beautiful images I once envisioned. I had dreamed of visiting your country. No longer. To visit a nation with such a pathetically barbaric, absolutely ignorant, demented and cruel event is a horrible notion. What a sick tradition to find this entertaining. Clearly you lack civility and are not a truly a “developed” nation. And to the tourists who spend your money there you too, are shameful, lowly and disturbed lot to fund this hellish event.

Bullfighting is an immensely historic, beautiful and emotional sport that is soaked in spanish culture. It is a truly wonderful, awe inspiring show of man v. Beast and something that should be carried on into the future as an example of how a sport can captivate the heart of a crowd, no matter whether they are rich or poor. If the people who classed it as ‘sadistic’ actually experienced this theatre first hand they would realise how exhilarating it is, and how it causes a rush on the inside. How dear these peta-philes ruin such a tremendous show of courage and triumph and courage by painting themselves red and spoiling the enjoyment of everyone else whilst making a huge scene, clearly it is these folk that are un-cultured trouble causers and need to be brought a side and educated more of worldly experiences.

    Thank you
