PETA Protesters Lie Naked in Pamplona to Protest Bullfights
With their naked bodies painted red and black and lying on the ground to spell out the words “Stop Bullfights”, dozens of PETA activists protested against the cruel Running of the Bulls in Pamplona and the deadly bullfights that follow. The protest was held outside the mayor’s residence just two days before the barbaric bull runs are scheduled to start. Other activists, including some from as far away as Australia and the United States, held a banner that read, “Bulls Die a Bloody Death in Pamplona”. PETA’s point? That tormenting animals by chasing them through the streets and later torturing and killing them in the bullring is barbaric and should be banned.
“The people who chase the bulls need to realise that they have blood on their hands, just like the matador who wields the sword”, says PETA Senior Programme Manager Yvonne Taylor. “The vast majority of Spaniards have no interest in bullfighting, and unless Pamplona changes with the times, it could soon find itself culturally isolated in its own land.”
Prior to each run, electric prods and sharp sticks are used to rile the scared and confused bulls. The animals are then goaded down streets and beaten, only to end up in the bullring, where they are repeatedly stabbed with daggers and eventually the matador’s sword. Many bulls drown in their own blood when the sword only pierces their lungs. Earlier this year, a ban on bullfighting in the entire region of Catalonia went into effect. Many more Spanish cities and towns are also declaring their opposition to bullfighting.

it is unbeievable n this day & age in the 21st century that this sort of barbaric practice still continues…it is equal to bear baiting & gladiator fights etc. Why does it continue? tradition! It is absolutely disgusting & disgraceful that as humans people not only endorese this & excuse it under the banner of ‘tradition’ but also actualy pay money to watch it- makes me sick to even think.
How much money do they make from this cruelty? These are evil people to allow this barbarity. What can we expect from a nation that does nothing to stop the hunters from hanging their dogs from trees and their king who shoots elephants. Throw them out of the EU until they learn to treat all animals with respect. And they are a Catholic country. Why aren’t their religious leaders speaking out?

It takes courage for them to do what they are doing, but they bare all because they understand the cruelty of bullfighting. I thank them because many of us cannot be there to protest. If only we can get the youth in the country to join in the protests because the old people have grown up with this cruelty and call it tradition. The youth will see the cruelty and put a stop to this torture of bulls.
The only positive from bullfighting is that it sorts out the compassionate intelligent folks from the ignorant and cruelty driven idiots who belong in the past. This was a magnificent effort to get the message across, one wonders what else can be done, unfortunately rural communities will not release their grip upon seeing and using animals as a commodity to be exploited for profit. Well done and thank you all involved.

It is not just in Spain that this horrendous sadistic torture of animals (both bulls and horses) is allowed. France also gives the green light to bullfighting in parts of its territory. “The Spectator” published a letter I wrote to condemn this barbaric spectacle in its edition of 21st July 2012.
Please also protest as much as possible against the presence of “Club Taurino of London”, which promotes bullfighting in the U.K. Their email is ctl.secretarygen@btinternet.com
If animals were treated in the U.K. the way they are treated in Spain and France in bullfights the perpetrators of this cruelty would be prosecuted, fined and put in prison. It is outrageous that Club Taurino of London functions in this country.

Animals were not put on earth to entertain us. If someone finds this activity exciting, then perhaps they should imagine themselves as the bull in the ring. Human beings do not have the right to inflict pain on any animal or human being for their own excitement and pleasure. Bullfighting and the running of the bulls are cruel activities that need to stop now. I will continue to fight to end this cruelty and encourage all others as well to never attend such horrific events! Thank you to all who take a stand to fight against cruelty to bulls.
“Spain;” what beautiful images I once envisioned. I had dreamed of visiting your country. No longer. To visit a nation with such a pathetically barbaric, absolutely ignorant, demented and cruel event is a horrible notion. What a sick tradition to find this entertaining. Bullfighting is an immensely historic, beautiful and emotional sport that is soaked in spanish culture. It is a truly wonderful, awe inspiring show of man v. Beast and something that should be carried on into the future as an example of how a sport can captivate the heart of a crowd, no matter whether they are rich or poor. If the people who classed it as ‘sadistic’ actually experienced this theatre first hand they would realise how exhilarating it is, and how it causes a rush on the inside. How dear these peta-philes ruin such a tremendous show of courage and triumph and courage by painting themselves red and spoiling the enjoyment of everyone else whilst making a huge scene, clearly it is these folk that are un-cultured trouble causers and need to be brought a side and educated more of worldly experiences.
