There’s a Fat Lot to Celebrate During National Butchers Week

Once a year, this week claims to celebrate “butchers’ creativity and passion”, but there is nothing to celebrate about slaughtering and hacking apart innocent, sentient animals. Every year, billions of animals who every bit as capable as feeling pain and suffering as you or I endure a terrifying and horrific experience in abattoirs that ends in their death. Undercover investigations repeatedly show that abuse and cruelty are inflicted on animals in abattoirs.

Farmed animals, the same as all animals, do not want to die, and they are not there for us to use. Those raised on factory farms experience unimaginable suffering. They are restricted from doing anything that they would naturally do – things as basic as building a nest and raising their young.

Butchers can take pride in something though: the fact that they are sending millions of Brits to an early grave with their saturated fat–laden steaks, bacon and sausages. A quarter of all adults and about one in six children in the UK are already obese. We are even seeing evidence of angina, diabetes and even heart attacks in children, thanks to meat consumption. Adult vegans are, on average, 10 to 20 pounds lighter than adult meat-eaters are; have stronger immune systems and live, on average, 10 years longer than meat-eaters do. Those in the meat industry are also responsible for contributing to severe environmental problems, including the pollution of our water supplies, land degradation, and the release of huge amounts of greenhouse gases.

Please help end this suffering, lead a healthier lifestyle, and help the environment by cutting animal products from your diet and encouraging others to do the same. Need a bit of help? Order your free vegetarian/vegan starter kit from us.

Tearing the flesh and organs of animals. It has no earthly or moral value.
