Two Facing Prosecution Over Abattoir Abuse

Two former Cheale Meats employees are facing prosecution for cruelty-to-animals charges following an undercover investigation by Animal Aid that exposed horrific abuse inflicted on pigs. Defra had initially refused to use the video footage to bring the perpetrators to justice, but after they were stripped of their prosecution powers, the case was able to move forward.

Piotr Andrzej Wasiuta and Kelly Smith will appear in court next month. Wasiuta faces three charges of causing unnecessary suffering to a pig by applying a lit cigarette to the animal’s snout. Smith faces four … Read more.

Happy Birthday to Me – Now Please Help Me Get My Name Back!

A few months ago, I changed my name to the catchy StopFortnumAndMasonFoieGrasCruelty.com in protest of department store Fortnum & Mason‘s sales of the hideously cruel food product foie gras. During that time, PETA has had many successes for ducks and geese, including persuading Lord’s Cricket Ground and the National Trust to ditch foie gras. However, I am greatly saddened that Fortnum & Mason continue to fund the force-feeding and killing of these vulnerable birds. So for my birthday, I am asking for your help in getting my old name back!

Firstly, … Read more.

Could Dominic Strauss-Kahn Be PETA’s New Desexing Ambassador?

The world stops and listens when they hear the name “Dominique Strauss-Kahn” and anything related to sex, so we think that by becoming PETA’s Desexing Ambassador, Mr. Strauss-Kahn could finally put his notorious reputation to good use and help alleviate the plight of homeless dogs and cats by urging people to spay and neuter their companion animals.

We’ve mocked up an advertisement bearing the message “Too Much Sex Can Be a Bad Thing” and Mr. Strauss-Kahn’s image:

We think no one is better placed to make the case that a … Read more.

A recent PETA Asia investigation has unearthed shocking conditions in a “shelter” in Pattaya, Thailand, called Tony’s Shelter. This facility confines animals to filthy conditions and fails to provide them with even basic veterinary care. There’s a Fat Lot to Celebrate During National Butchers Week

Once a year, this week claims to celebrate “butchers’ creativity and passion”, but there is nothing to celebrate about slaughtering and hacking apart innocent, sentient animals. Every year, billions of animals who every bit as capable as feeling pain and suffering as you or I endure a terrifying and horrific experience in abattoirs that ends in their death. Undercover investigations repeatedly show that abuse and cruelty are inflicted on animals in abattoirs.

Farmed animals, the same as all animals, do not want to die, … Read more.

Bubbly Pro-Vegan PETA Action Marks World Water Day

Nearly nude vegan PETA supporters Marika Rea and Helaine Murrin sat leisurely in a bubbly bath holding signs reading, “50 Baths = 1 Steak. Clean Your Conscience: Go Vegan”, in Dublin today in the run-up to World Water Day. The bathing beauties let passers-by know that it takes the water equivalent to 50 baths to produce one steak.

“Not only is the meat industry cruel, it also wastes huge amounts of water and damages the planet”, says bathing beauty Helaine. “You can’t eat meat and be an environmentalist.”

Mother’s Day Should Include Animal Mums

We all love our mothers, even when – or perhaps, because – they interfere in our lives (for our own good, of course). But this Mother’s Day, while you are celebrating your own mum, remember that some of the best mothers in the world are found in the animal kingdom. Sadly, on UK factory farms, few animal mums are allowed to care for their young as nature intended.

Pigs, for example, are devoted mothers who, if allowed, would spend days building a nest of leaves or straw before giving birth. Then … Read more.
