95 French Demonstrators Beaten, Kicked, Punched and Sprayed With Water

The following video contains scenes of violent attacks on a group of demonstrators during a peaceful sit-in to protest the torture and deaths of bulls in archaic bullfights in France on 8 October 2011.

The pro-bullfighting crowd showed the same callousness and violence towards the activists that they do towards bulls, but at no point did the protesters reciprocate with violence.

Here is a rundown of the events at the times they occur:

At 0:56 seconds: Half of the group unfurl banners whilst half enter the bullring to chain themselves together.… Read more.

Animals Benefit When You Lose the Fur!

That may seem like a no-brainer statement, but read on:

Professional Beauty Award winners and smooth operators Ministry of Waxing unsurprisingly find fur really unattractive, and that includes the kind that can be found on coats, bags and shoes! That’s why they’re using their wax factor to help save animals from the cruel fur trade by generously donating £2 from every full-priced Brazilian and XXXX wax in store to PETA until the end of December!

Quite literally, by losing your own fur, you can help animals keep theirs!

So whether you’re a … Read more.

And I Love Her: Sir Paul McCartney Weds

All they need is love! Congratulations to Sir Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell who were married in an intimate ceremony at Old Marylebone Town Hall on Sunday.

After the nuptials, longtime vegetarian and PETA supporter Sir Paul and his new bride invited family and close friends to his St. John’s Wood estate for a three-course vegetarian feast and two wedding cakes. The bride looked radiant in a dress designed by Sir Paul’s daughter, Stella, who is leather- and fur-free and also a PETA supporter.

While many hearts are surely breaking … Read more.

Animals Skinned Alive for UGG-Style Boots

Hard to imagine that footwear involving the mutilation of millions of sheep could get any ugglier, but now tests conducted on knock-off UGG-style boots labelled as “Australian sheepskin” reveal that they were actually made of raccoon dog fur, most likely from animals confined to barbaric Chinese fur farms.

Please make a donation to support our work to help all animals.

Raccoon dogs are confined to row upon row of tiny wire cages that are exposed to the elements. Many of the animals go insane from the intensive confinement. Undercover video Read more.

Remembering Steve Jobs

The late Steve Jobs may have been known for his signature black turtleneck, but it is for his green diet that he probably will be most fondly remembered by people who care about animals. The Apple cofounder, who died yesterday, was a vegetarian and a longtime health advocate who reportedly once handed out containers of carrot juice at Halloween.

We remember Jobs for so many innovative ideas, including Apple’s iPhoto facial recognition software, which recognises the faces of cats in addition to those of humans, reflecting the importance of companion animals in … Read more.

On World Animal Day, How ‘Great’ Would Great Britain Be in Gandhi’s Eyes?

During a week that marks both Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday and World Animal Day, we thought it appropriate to take a moment to reflect on these words of wisdom from the “Great Soul”: “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated”. If Gandhi were alive today, how would the UK fare in his eyes?

One of the first pieces of animal rights legislation in the world, the Cruel Treatment of Cattle Act of 1822, was introduced in the UK, and we’ve … Read more.

More Rabbits Spared From a Life of Suffering

© iStockPhoto.com / rusm

We’re hopping up and down in the PETA office following the news that T&S Nurseries’ plans to build a rabbit-breeding farm in Stamford have been thwarted again! After initial plans were refused, another application was submitted and promptly shot down, saving more bunnies from a life of misery and suffering.

This farm would have been a wholly unnatural environment for these quiet, clean, sociable animals and would have denied them the opportunity to do anything that makes life worth living – before they mercilessly ended up … Read more.

Happy Vegetarian Awareness Month

Yesterday saw World Vegetarian Day arrive, which kicks off Vegetarian Awareness Month – a whole month of opportunities to try something new and learn just how great a meat-free diet can be! So many compassionate celebs (and PETA supporters) have already made the decision to ditch meat, including Pamela Anderson, Sir Paul McCartney, Eliza Doolittle, Owain Yeoman, Leona Lewis, Bryan Adams, Russell Brand, and Chantelle Houghton – who recently launched our brand-new vegetarian/vegan starter kit.

What better time to give it a shot than … Read more.
