Parliament’s Fur Robes Are Royally Ugly

Baroness Lola Young wants the House of Lords to elect faux fur to Parliament. The baroness led a debate in the House of Lords last week to ask Her Majesty’s government what plans it has to support and promote ethical and sustainable clothing.

Prior to the debate, PETA shared with the baroness information about the fur industry and noted that the overwhelming majority of British people are opposed to real fur – 95 percent according to a 2010 poll. Pointing out that, as representatives of the people, … Read more.

Amazing Animals

Animals find new ways to astonish us every day. Wouldn’t it be great if we returned the favour by astonishing them with our compassion?

  • Scientists have discovered that “sheepish” really means “brainy”.
  • Dolphins and researchers have learned to speak each other’s language. Can a Rosetta Stone course be far behind?
  • Perhaps those dolphins can help us translate a Compassionate Action Award into dolphinese for this pup-friendly pod who rescued a dog.
  • A courageous canine has proved that true friends are there when you need them most.

Rosanna Davison Is a ‘Lady in Green’ (Lettuce) in Run Up to St Paddy’s Day

Wearing a short green dress made entirely of lettuce leaves, stunning model Rosanna Davison posed today in front of the Spire of Dublin in order to encourage people to “turn over a new leaf” and go vegetarian.

“A vegetarian diet is a great way to stay fit and healthy”, says the former Miss World. “As well as causing incredible suffering to animals, the meat industry damages our forests, our water supply and the global climate – so the best way to ‘go green’ this St Patrick’s Day is to go vegetarian.”

Banishing … Read more.

Everyday Dogs

One of the many parts of my job is that I get to see new PETA videos before they are released. Given the very nature of PETA’s work, this often means that I see disturbing and harrowing footage of cruelty to animals. Of course, PETA doesn’t just release racy videos or celebrity testimonials. Most of the videos you can watch on our site focus on investigations and shocking cruelty filmed by PETA affiliates.

So when I received the following video, pressed play and heard the cheerful music … Read more.

Waka Flocka Flame Strips Down for New PETA Campaign

Wearing nothing but strategically placed bling, rapper Waka Flocka Flame shows off his tattoos – and more – in his brand-new PETA campaign ad, with the message “Ink, Not Mink. Be Comfortable in Your Own Skin and Let Animals Keep Theirs”. The ad was shot by top celebrity photographer Robert Sebree.

In an exclusive PETA US interview, Waka calls on the hip-hop community to consider the animals who are cruelly killed for fur coats, collars and cuffs. “Understand where that fox fur came from before you spend $1,000″, he says. “Someone … Read more.

Mazda Owners: Solve Your Spider Problems!

© iStockPhoto / EcoPic

Thousands of Mazda6 cars in the US, Canada and Mexico have just been recalled because of the potential for spiders to build webs inside the car’s emission system, and PETA US has responded with a solution for Mazda owners creeped out by the idea of continuing to drive the spider-friendly cars – donate them!

“It’s a win-win situation for compassionate people who suffer from arachnophobia, one of the most common phobias in existence”, says PETA founder Ingrid E Newkirk. “The spiders will be out of their sight, and … Read more.

Five Ways to Go Green on St. Patrick’s Day

© iStockPhoto / chas53

What better day to go green than St. Patrick’s Day? In honour of old Paddy, we’ve come up with five simple ways to go green (and help animals!):

1. One of the leading causes of climate change is meat production. Inform everyone you know that “meat’s not green“!

2. The best thing that you can do to help the environment is to go vegan. Go green (and help animals!) by pledging to go veg today.

3. Share the “Glass Walls” video on Facebook and expose the … Read more.

Be an Everyday Superhero for Animals

Today, The Sun introduced Britain’s animals to their very own real-life superhero. To quote the benevolent masked crusader: “I make sure people aren’t abusing their animals. I serve justice to those who deserve it. We stand for those who cannot, because we can”. Bravo! Rapturous applause from your fans at PETA!

While “the black arrow” battles the forces of evil in defence of our furry friends, there are plenty of simple things that anyone can do to be an everyday hero for animals. Here are just a few:

  1. Go vegan. Giving

Pamela Anderson Says Think About Your Mink

Pamela Anderson finds so many new and creative ways to help animals every day that we’re starting to think she should be called Saint Pam. When she was invited to launch a swanky new club in Los Angeles owned by a Danish entrepreneur, Pam used the opportunity to talk to the Scandinavian media covering the event about the cruelty of Danish fur farms.

Denmark is not far behind China in mink production, and Saga, an international organisation that pushes designers to use fur, is based there. Danish animal advocacy group AnimaRead more.

‘Boycott Breeders or the Mutt Gets It’

With Crufts starting in just a few short days, we’ve had an illuminated bus shelter ad placed in Birmingham’s city centre, which won’t have dog breeders wagging their tails. The ad shows a small dog cowering under the barrel of a gun and reads, “Boycott Breeders or the Mutt Gets It. Don’t Kill Shelter Dogs’ Chances. Adopt. Never Buy”.

The point of our ad? That when people buy a dog or a cat from a breeder, they rob animals in shelters of the chance at a loving home … and the breeder pockets … Read more.
