What Do Crufts and the KKK Have in Common?

Crufts is upon us again, and are we excited? You bet. To coincide with the launch of this year’s event starting tomorrow, we’ve decided to air the hilarious KKK video that our pals at PETA US put together for the American Kennel Club.

Put simply, shows like Crufts only allow dogs that have been bred from pedigree to enter, which encourages breeding and ignores the thousands of animals waiting in shelters for a loving home, many of which end up euthanized due to overcrowding. Breeding dogs is irresponsible and can be likened to the Ku Klux Klan. Yes this is outrageous, but it is also completely valid.

As you’ll see in the fab video below, both the Kennel Club and the KKK believe in the “sanctity of pure bloodlines” and a “master race” (or “master pedigree”).

Make sure you pledge to end animal homelessness by adopting from shelters and getting your furry friends spayed and neutered. Caring for a dog with the glossiest coat or cutest paw-shake is great, but being a responsible guardian and loving your companion animals regardless of their looks or background is vital.

Check out Farmers Weekly Blog (yes there is a blog for farmers):

A bunch of farmers ridiculing a poor dead fox. Really poor taste and cruel.

maybe people should ridicule them too also when they ‘pop’ off..

I read our article likening pedigree dog breeders to th K.K.K. with horror!
I own and show pedigree dogs. Yes there are thousands of cross-breeds in desperate need of rehoming but this also happens to pedigree dogs too. Fortunatley the majority of breeders will always rescue and rehome dogs they have bred. Also most breed organisations run a rescue and rehoming service supported by breeders and owners.
In addition breeders and breed clubs work in conjunction with the Kennel Club to ensure that the dogs produced are fit and healthy examples of their breed. My own breed is working tirelessly to irradicate hip,eye and elbow problems. Dogs being hip scored, eye tested and now also D.N.A. tested . I would also add if you attend any dog show you will see animals who are healthy, happy, well socialized and non-agressive. Dogs who love their owners and whose owners love them so to liken us to the K.K.K., an organisation which promoted death and destruction I find particularly offensive.
Yes there are irresponsible breeders around (perhaps that is why there are so many cross- breeds in resuce!) And yes all dogs are created equal the problem is irresponsible owners who do not treat them as such!

M. Newsham.
P.S. I own three pedigree dogs and one 12year old Whippet x saluki X German Shepherd whom I rescued a 5 WEEKS of age from her breeder who was going to have her destroyed if she could not find her a home! And she is as loved, cherished and pampered as my other three pedigrees.

WHAT GIVES YOU THE RIGHT TO SLAG OFF ANYBODY ELSE? ARE YOU WITHOUT SIN? I DOUBT IT! HAVE YOU READ THE KKK WEBSITE? OR ARE YOU BEING BIGOTED, IGNORANT,& SELF-RIGHTEOUS? DO NOT JUDGE OTHERS UNTIL YOU GET TO KNOW THEM.YOU ARE SHORT-SIGHTED,IGNORANT,AND HAVE MADE UP YOUR OWN, VERY INACCURATE VIEWS OF THE KU KLUX KLAN-TYPICAL OF HICKS WHO LIKE TO FEEL GREAT COMPARED TO OTHERS.WHILE I AM HERE, JUST WHAT ARE YOUR SOLUTIONS FOR A BETTER,SAFER, AND MORE LOGICAL AMERICA? THERE IS NO NAZI-STYLE BREEDING CAMPS IN THE KKK,NOR ARE THE 1861 ESTABLISHED KKK A NAZI GROUP. CHECK THE FACTS-THE GERMAN WING OF THE KKK, WAS WIPED OUT BY THE NAZIS-THE KLAN HOOD WAS USED ON AN ANTI-AMERICAN POSTERS POSTED ON WALLS IN HOLLAND BY THE THIRD RIECH-I HAVE A COPY OF THAT POSTER IN A BOOK AT HOME.SO,CONTACT THE KKK AT THEIR WEBSITE(WWWKKK.COM),AND LEARN SOME FACTS_REMEMBER,HELL IS FULL OF PEOPLE ,JUDGEMENTAL ONES,WHO PREFERED A LIE TO A TRUTH.

how dare you i can only agree with N Newsham just because we breed a pedigree dog does not by any means liken us to the KKK disgusting how you think that you can post such rubbish about sutch things you know nothing about i also breed for health and temprement and lastly for looks do you not think the reason that some people choose a pedigree breed is because with a pedigree you can pretty much tell how big it will be how much care of fur it will need and many other factors that are governed by the particular breeds conformation helps them to choose a pet that is right for them over getting a x bred pup not knowing how it will turn out maybe even turning out just way to big for their small home and ending up in rescue for gods sake get a grip we all care about the ones in rescue, and as is said thoose breeders who are worth their salt will take back any dog bred by them and often not even bred by them i know i do and have on both accounts one such account was a call christmas eve to save a dogs life because the owners got fed up of the dog wanted shut we drove 8 hours round trip the day after boxing day to get him back home all the while we actually didnt have a home to come back to due to being flooded the previous june but he still came back !!! so get facts correct not all breeders of pedigree dogs do it for money many of us do it for the LOVE of a breed!!! and beside the fact your not all what you paint yourselves to be oh so caring for the poor defenceless x breeds !!!!!

I think I tend to stand somewhere in the middle of this one, but the rants above push me towards PETA.

Our current rescue dog (our third rescue, and sixth rescue non-human so far) *is* a pedigree because we were interested in a certain type of beastie this time, but the person we adopted him from (herself an occasional breeder as well as mainly a rescue centre) says she wishes people would stop and think before breeding or buying these dogs because so many are taken on just for their looks.

The fact that the person above took back a dog, because the ‘owners got fed up of the dog’ (whilst commendable in itself) does suggest they should have been more careful before letting those people take the dog on. People with any realy love of that dog would never have wanted to abandon it.

The main points for me though are two:

the hideous impact that ‘breeding’ has on a dog: Pekinese with eyes that can fall out, Bulldogs who can’t breathe without rasping and Great Danes who have heart attacks. This is not for the love of the breed and it is not kind.

the fact that ’show’ dogs cannot be neutered and are kept for their looks. This is old-fashioned, backward thinking and in some cases borderline cruel. Our dog is ex-show (he got a small injury and was basically ‘worthless’ from then on) and the poor thing didn’t know what ‘fetch’ was, how to swim, play with a ball or chew a bone: he had bags of pent up energy that he couldn’t use. Now, neutered, with two walks behind him already today and a third about to happen he is half asleep at my feet with a muddy bone between his paws. We don’t care if he looks pristine and he is rewarding us by discovering his playful side… if I don’t go soon he’s going to try to bury that bone in the bed… : D

I have no idea about dog shows, but surely with a little common sense the first thing that pops into my mind is that having a rule saying pedigree dogs only is what MUST be done to protect the species of dogs, as otherwise people would try and modify the makeup of the dogs to create prettier ones and ones that perform better etc? SURELY this is the case… It’s like tomatoes and stuff… farmers want to make them as best as they can so they modify the tomatoes to grow bigger and taste nicer, along with loads of other products we buy… Just my 2 cents

Wayne, did writing that in capitals make you feel like you were shouting? Bless.

T Schofield, ever heard of punctuation?

I hope you saw the Peedigree Dogs Exposed program last night!!

Hmmmm….Wayne, you sound like a mentalist. I mean, let’s be honest, there can’t be many people (or at least I hope not) who regularly log in or have a life long membership to the KKK…or have the web address in their ‘favourites’for that matter.
YOU SOUND AS SELF-RIGHTEOUS AS THE PEOPLE YOU ARE CRITICISING. (whoops…seemed to have accidently pressed CAPS LOCK)
Paul clearly knows very little about Al Quida which is highlighted by his, well, frankly bizarre attempt at making a point when likening PETA to it. Hahaha. You’re a genius. Really, nice comment.
Robert - nice work.
