The Olsen Twins Get a Hairy Birthday Surprise

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are no doubt preparing furiously for their 22nd birthday on Friday, but I doubt they are expecting parcels of human hair to arrive in the morning post with all their cards. Peta2 US are encouraging their supporters to send the fur-wearing twins snippets of their own hair with a note saying, “Please, use my hair instead of the animals’. Happy Birthday.”

There’s a hilarious ‘Hairy-Kate and Trashley Trollsen’ campaign, which points out that you can’t flaunt fur after being told what happens on fur farms and not expect some kind of backlash. These so-called style icons contribute to an industry in which animals languish for days in steel-jaw traps before their chests are stomped on or their necks are broken by trappers. On fur farms, animals spend their entire lives in cramped, filthy cages before they are killed by poisoning, gassing, anal electrocution, or neck-breaking. In China – which by the way is now the world’s leading fur exporter, including into the UK – animals, including cats and dogs, are sometimes skinned alive. Yeah, well stylish girls.

Happy Birthday indeed.

Dress Up The Trollsen Twins!
