Selfridges Breaks ‘Ethical’ Foie Gras Promise

Foie gras peddling Selfridges went back on its promise to the press and public to sell a so-called animal friendly foie gras from Spain. PETA met with their execs last week and they were acting very shifty indeed. Dear oh dear. So we’re kicking off our demonstrations in front of their Oxford Street store again, starting with a great one today.

I no longer shop at Selfridges and Harrods!

Shopping ethically has helped my bank balance as well! :-)

Keep up the good word Peta.

I can’t comprehend for the life of me..why, how some people just simply do not care about the horrendous mistreatment and abuse of animals for the sake of some ‘luxury’ product..
well looks like the message will have to be continued to be drummed into their so very thick skulls until they can finally see some inkling of sense and hopefuly start to feel some compasssion … !

What about everyone campaigning to the celebrity chefs - Jamie Oliver, Delia Smith, Anthony Worrell- Thompson, Nigella Lawson, Gordon Ramsay etc etc to make a stand against foie gras by going public and stating that they would never use or promote it. They are so influential.

Please do look in your local newspapers for menus of advertising restaurants, specially on special occasions such as Xmas, St Valentines, etc and do send a letter of complaint to the restaurant and another letter to your local paper with details about the suffering of the animals involved.
It is astonishing that this kind of product should have any demand at all!

I pledge never to shop at Selfridges as long as they continue to sell this disgusting so-called ‘delicacy’. HAVE THESE PEOPLE NO CONSCIENCE???

Unfortunately the so-called ‘discerning’ pallets
in other words the delicacy fetishes
of those who think they are priviledged matter more than the appalling cruelty and force-feeding
of innocent and gentle creatures like ducks who never see water, or get to perform natural behaviours
Masterchef has often used foi gras, and I didnt see ONE contestant complaining about using it, obviously fame means more to these sad individuals, than compassion

It makes me soooooooooo mad!!! I will never shop there again!!!
I agree with a previous writer Steve Dawe about getting the celebrity chefs involved…even highlighting the problem at peak evening tv watching time…a lot of my meat eating freinds had no idea about this shameless ( and many other) acts of cruelty.I’ve even convinced a couple of them to go veggie!!! Keep up the good work PETA.

I wrote to the BBC in February complaining about the fact that the competitors were using foie gras. I received a very considerate and considered reply which suggested that they were “thinking” about removing this ingredient from their programmes, but that all contestants had been asked whether they had any particular aversion to any food for any reason and none of them had expressed any concerns. They did accept that this was a deeply contentious issue and had passed on my comments to their researchers. I have replied asking for more coverage on the foie gras debate, as my own particular research has realised that a great number of people do not even know what foie gras is and therefore it seems yet another class war begins. People think that they are doing their bit by not being able to afford it! However we wait for the reply, but as time goes on and on and on there is more and more and more suffering. What are we all actually waiting for, I wonder.
