Regarding Holly’s comment, what part of this sort of thing gives PETA a bad name. You may find this extreme, but have you ever thought as to why PETA carrys out such actions??? If this is the only way people are going to take notice of how appallingly factory farmed animals are treated then I think good on PETA for having the bottle to do something about it!!! Keep up the good work.

Being in the marketing field I see this as being a form of shock marketing. Showing the shocking to get people to notice. These tactics work sometimes if it’s done correctly. I’m sorry to say, but nothing about this display makes me want to turn vegetarian. The fact that PETA would allow one of their own to be publicly degraded like this is extreme and that’s why PETA has a bad name.

Holly and Anil, What is shameful and extreme is incredibly cruel way animals are treated on the way to your table. It amazed me that people get all prudish, judgmental and squeamish about this, and not about the issue it’s trying to highlight. How sad I feel for you! I can imagine you right now thinking to yourself “Ew how disgusting, a pregnant woman on all fours like that… etc”

Most people don’t care what they eat, Often the animal has been tortured, brutalised, rolled around in it’s own excrement, pumped full of hormones and drugs and then slowly killed. Only the most unaware and idiotic people would think this was acceptable, and furthermore want to have that on their dinner plates.
I applaud this beautiful, strong, woman for being brave enough to highlight the plight of these animals. A mother is a mother, whether she is human or an animal, and it is inhumane to treat any creature this way.

I think it’s about time that people brought shock value to animal rights! Obviously just telling people about being a vegitarian is not enough. They are so right when they say “being a mother is being a mother whether human or swine”, It doesn’t take a genius to realize vegitarianism is the healthy and cruelty free way to go. If you think it’s degrading and harmful for a pig to be treated this way then it is no less degrading and harmful for a pregnant woman to have this done to her.

Well first of all thank you so much for your comments and your interest in this demo

And thank you Bob for your concerns about me being cold. Actually I wasn’t cold, and more importantly it was my choice to do it. I did this demo on my own will; I took my clothes off and went in this crate because I wanted to. I’m lucky enough to have the choice to use my body to speak up for the animals and to raise awareness about the conditions the sows are kept in.

Other animals are made of flesh, blood, and bone. They have the same five physiological senses that humans do, and the same range of emotions. They love their babies and want the best for them. But farmed animals are treated no better than dirt, and it’s immoral.

Mother animals on factory farms are treated like machines: For example, mother pigs are crammed into tiny crates that are not much larger than their bodies for more than a month at a time, and all mother farmed animals are never able to cuddle and raise their young or fulfill any of their basic maternal desires. When they are no longer able to have babies, mother farmed animals are killed for pet food and soup—their bodies are too trashed for anything else.

I went to a slaughterhouse once, and I have seen for myself pigs arriving in overcrowded trucks, with broken legs, bleeding wounds and such a sad look in their eyes. When the driver opened the doors of the truck, a lot of dead pigs fell on the floor, they didn’t even make the journey to the slaughter house!

The person unloading the truck was using an electrocuting stick to force them to go out and was kicking them and punching them. There is no excuse for such extreme cruelty. These animals are living such miserable conditions and more than that, after a stressful and painful existence we are stealing their lives.

So honestly, compares to what these animals have to go through, staying nearly naked in a crate for an hour is nothing!

Congrats on the uproar you’ve created. You are beautiful and your baby will most certainly grow to be a mindful and intelligent child who will be as proud of you as I am of my feminist movement mother. It takes brave people and many times shocking behavior to get the walking dead to listen, see and wake up. The children who saw you naked are not going to be damaged from seeing you as so many have posted elswhere. Children are much more in touch with their bodies and the naturality of nudity. More than anything they will question why you were naked in a cage in the cold and why pigs are treated that way. Let’s pray it will leave a deep impression in their minds that will question the quality of their relationship with all sentient beings.

You know I find it so disheartening to read comments like that from James who thinks somehow that we who care about the plight of our fellow species are stupid or lack information. In fact, we are the ones who refuse to turn away from the ‘information’ regarding factory farming, animal testing and other horrors visited upon even our closest mammalian cousins. We KNOW the images of animals who have been treated in the grossest and cruelest fashion and we can’t look away because we have seen what it looks like; suffering doesn’t look much different whether it is upon the face of a pig, a dog, a chimp or even yes! a human. Why do you think that we who care about animals don’t also care and get pro-active about human rights and issues of human welfare? Of course, we do. We care about the environment and ALL of the creatures who must share the earth. We care about humanity and the impact of humanity.

And for myself, I imagine that a really peaceful, prosperous and evolved world cannot happen with this kind of mass atrocity and gross defilement- no matter what species suffers. And it is for James and others like him that WE can only hope they will one day stand outside their anger and denial and see the picture as it really is. That they will look at the ‘information’ and see it for what it is- INhumanity.

It is really, truly shocking, but if Noemie chose to do this, how can there be anything wrong with it?

I’m so heartened by reading all these positive comments, sometimes it seems as though nobody cares. And its nice to see those of us who care about the environment and animals have the far more intelligent and articulate comments…not that I’m surprised. Well done Noemie and well done evevryone with compassion.

I visited a commercial pig farm recently and even though I had prepared myself for the worst, I was shocked at the confined spaces in which the pigs were kept. Despite this, the owner of the farm told me she was an animal lover and was convinced her pigs were happy. Obviously she thought that treating her animals like machines and confining them in rows of cramped cages while their piglets were sent to slaughter once they reached 30 kilos was conducive to a happy lifestyle.

Bringing the plight of farm animals to the attention of the public and speaking up for those who cannot speak for themselves is commendable, no matter what form it takes. If going nude gets this issue some air time from otherwise uninterested media agencies, then why not? And I don’t think Noemie’s child whill grow up feeling ashamed of its mother - I think the child will be proud that Noemie took a stand against something which she believed to be wrong.

Noemie, I’ve looked at all your photos and I thank you for having the strength to place yourself in such unpleasant situations to help these animals. It takes real courage to do that, and I’m sure your photos will help anyone still trying to convince themselves that the meat industry really isn’t that bad to see that yes, it really is that bad.

Anyone who can’t or doesn’t want to give up meat and animal products for the sake of animals should consider doing it for themselves. I’ve cured myself of depression, menstrual pain, acne, obesity and a whole range of other niggling complaints since I became a raw vegan a year ago and not for love or money would I ever go back to eating cooked food or animal products for as long as I live. I used to think being healthy was just something fanatics were into, but since discovering this way of life I’ve realised how much more enjoyable life can be when you have energy to burn and are buzzing with good health. Try going raw for a month and see if you don’t feel better. I initially planned to do it for 3 months just to lose weight, but I found I felt so much better that I decided to stick with it for life. Losing 15 kilos was just a bonus, and once you get past the stage where you’ve kicked your addiction to cooked food, you’ll really start to soar.

This a bit of a rant…and I am NOT sorry!

I won’t even call myself vegan, if someone notices that I don’t eat or wear certain things I just joke I am difficult or say “I just don’t” and its not only because of non vegan’s, its because of things like the above.

I find it ironic that people who can be so empathic in some respects can’t show the same degree of tolerance in others. It makes vegans look militant and ignorant!

Holly and Anil are perfectly entitled to give their comments and should not expect essays attacking them on a site that is in part about showing respect. Surely as vegans you know from first hand experience that this gets boring, can be upsetting and even demoralising.

PETA needs feedback from everyone to make sure they can make their campaigns as effective as possible.

Instead of being so pedantic and defensive you could actually try pausing for a moment and think about what Holly and Anil are trying to say. It is not easy to express yourself in a email, and a little understanding on behalf the reader is always appreciated.

Yes what Noemie did was good she brought attention to a horrible and cruel issue. She humanised it to help people relate to the suffering.
She is brave, she did have a choice and yes it’s lovely that someone with such strength of character is fighting for a cause that we all believe in.

But, and I think this is what Holly and Anil were probably trying to say is as a women it sometimes feels degrading to see another women’s body being used to a say something that could be better said another way. It might require a bit more though or effort and take a bit longer to get the message across. But it worked for Ghandi and Martin Luther King. Neither degraded anyone and yet helped liberate so many minds.

No one is saying a naked women’s body is degrading, it is the way in which it is used that can be considered degrading.
I think clothing would have helped keep the focus on issue of suffering rather than the ‘naked pregnant lady’.
People who ‘get it’ are probably the ones who are more likely to open minded and aware of the issues anyway, the ones who don’t are usually the ones who would see the “naked lady” and miss the issues completely. I hope that someone was affected by what they saw and went away with a seed firmly planted in their minds!

As vegetarians and vegans most of us would agree that we are using our voices to help those who don’t have one, (well I think they do, its just we don’t speak the same language but that is by the by), my point is why can’t we use our voices and brains instead of stripping…. yet again!

I am fed up with seeing bikini clad women out protesting, it makes us look like we don’t have the intelligence to hold a serious debate or that we aren’t smart enough to think of a means to get the message across without relying on sex. Its boring and detracts, even worse devalues the issues. I am all for celebrating women and how wonderful our curvy bits but women are sexualised enough that’s a problem we shouldn’t add to it.

Let the naked girls have their page 3 and FHM, PETA is smart enough to take the front page with thoughful debate. The cruelty and suffering don’t need dramatising they just need exposing! No shock tactics needed, is the truth and the cruelty not shocking enough for you?!

PETA are great as at starting dialogues with companies and the public, managing to create awareness and effect change, and I am pretty sure they don’t strip off to get the directors attention.

Basically to sum up, you’re all clearly compassionate people just please try and be a bit nicer and less defensive when it comes to each other.
And understand that sometimes some women (me included) feel its hard enough to be seen as more than just sex/ meat (do you get my point!), but as someone who can actually think, has an opinion and might have something worth while to say and wouldn’t mind you listening without having to flash something!

But just a note, it’s best to ignore people who visit sites, just to start arguements, there is actually an official name for these people, I am sure you have all thought of a few others but just don’t bite, ignore them, hopefully they will go away or PETA will block them. Serioulsy people who do this have to be a little mentally unwell, why else would you visit a site which you have absolutely no interest in and then pick a fight??!!

We need legislation to protect farm animals from the hands of sadistic workers. Gestation crates are very cruel and inhumane. Brave girl. Whatever it takes.

I have only recently managed to see the film EARTHLINGS. I suggest the people with negative comments on Noemie’s brave actof protest (or any protest for the sake of animal rights’ movements) to take an hour and a half to watch that movie and think one more time. I know, for they are good people, i have no doubt, that they will change their minds.
The way to change the world as it is today is not to create “us” and “them” divides, it is to find a common ground on which we could all sit down and shed the same tear on the suffering we ourselves inflict on other beings who have exactly the same rights to live, bear children, feed themselves and be free, as we do.
When i look in to the eyes of my 16 year old dog, when the little paw of a kitten touches my hand, when the sparrows come over into my garden to peck on the apples, i am humbled by the force of nature and the love it brings in such abundence.
Living, breathing, sentient beings as they are all animals, including us, humans, deserve respect and a chance to survive.

Hope Noemie didnt catch cold, and wished she had done this inside in the warm, and her unborn child and herself are both ok, that aside, she is publicly stating what many people and mothers feel about the way that non-human mothers feel when they are incarcerated in tiny cages, not for them, the sanitised comfortable hospital confinements of western humans, anything has the capacity to feel fear,and love and grief, many animals feel these emotions, pigs are excellent mothers, and no-one has any right to inflict pain or abuse or their own personal issues on any living creature, just because they can, lets make mothers day a celebration for all mothers, human and non-human

Here’s my opinion and we are ALL ENTITLED to one. First of all, **BRAVO TO NOEMIE**. I applaud people who put themselves in what may be deemed embarrassing situations to highlight the plight of suffering animals or people. And these days you have to do things that gets peoples attention. There’s far to much apathy in the world and without the likes of Noemie and others, things would be far worse than they are. What you don’t know doesn’t hurt you-TRUE. Ignorance is bliss-MAYBE, but is that just an excuse? People need the full facts about lots of different things in life to be able to make informed decisions. I’m not and have never been a pig farmer. Birthing crates may “possibly” be used in some situations for the right reasons but that’s not the case right across the board. I recently watched a series of programmes on BBC3 called “Kill it, Cook it, Eat it” where it showed the whole slaughter process from start to finish, with lambs, suckling pigs, kid goats and calves (the debate was “how young is too young?”) It also showed conditions on the continent aren’t as humane as they are here. But even then not all abbatoirs are the same. I didn’t particularly enjoy seeing the animals killed but they would be anyway and it was an opportunity for people (audience and at home) to see the process first hand and to raise important issues. I personally am a vegan (1 yr or so). I used to be a meat eater (enjoyed it) and never really thought that much about it. After seeing things online like “Meet your meat” I couldn’t go back to sleep. To me, I’m not justified in ending an amazing creature’s life (and that’s what I’m paying someone to do) just so I can taste it. I don’t need to do that to survive. My diet is far healthier now than it ever was before (maybe a little too much alcohol). I wish I’d done it much sooner but ignorance is bliss? I’m not telling anyone how to live. Free will, it is a bitch(The Devil’s Advocate). But people need to know what really goes on. Knowledge is power. It’s a beautiful planet with beautiful creatures in it. It’s only really MAN that’s fucking it up. Like Bill Hicks said “We are a virus with shoes” Bill also said “It’s an insane world and I’m proud to be part of it”. Me too.

I also became a vegetarian just over a year ago as a result of becoming aware of the cruelty perpetrated against animals. Me and my family also stopped drinking dairy milk when we saw the abuse against cows and after trying several alternatives we settled on unsweetened soya which we all enjoy. Dairy milk is for calves and not for humans. It is absolutely appalling that cows should be kept pregnant continuosly to keep them on producing milk for human consumption, and when the calves are born, they are taken away from their mothers and are disposed off as an unwanted byproduct. We live in a world ruled by unrestrained capitalism and it is only up to us as individuals to take ethical action because governments are more interested in getting votes by offering tax cuts instead of promoting an ethical way of life for all alike. They obviously know that human greed surpasses ethical sense.
So wake up guys and make a stand for the causes which you believe in, help the planet and animals by becoming vegetarian, source out your cleaning household products by buying only products not tested on animals (buy your own guide from “uncaged”, I highly recommend it), and boicot stores that profit from animal cruelty such as Harrods and Selfridges (foie gras) to name a few.
Together we will make a difference and feel happier within ourselves, healthier and with a clean conscience.

Go PETA, This should have been on all the news channels around the country . If it had been an Art Project there would have been uproar, There should have been more of an uproar on this occassion, for the sake of the animals. (remember the half of cow so called art)

Because I find it a bit wierd for someone to write to animal activists and say they should be doing something about abortion. It’s an animal rights group!! (doesn’t mean they don’t care about humans, but the obvious purpose is to help animals) And to “James” the dumb uniformed idiot who has way too much time on his hand that he has time to write messages onto sites that are outside his interest just to try abuse animal activist because they are not, in your eyes, doing enough for MANkind.
