Morrissey: Take Kids to an Abattoir, Not the Zoo

What a legend. Our man Morrissey is unstoppable - he’s now taking on Edinburgh Zoo for their up-coming chimp enclosure, the Budongo Trail. He recommends instead that parents should take their children to the abattoir “for a lesson that no kid would ever forget”, stating in no uncertain terms, “If the Budongo Trail at Edinburgh Zoo is such a stimulating highlight, then why don’t the zoo staff live in it instead?” The full story is at The Times today, where you can read Morrissey’s damning view on keeping animals in captivity.

Keep up the incredible work that you do for animals Sir, you certainly walk the walk and talk the talk! You are a hero to many of us South African animals rights activists.

It amased me the other day, I was talking to a child and I said that is a nice handbag, to which she replied it is snake skin, I knew that this handbag was not real snake skin but I think the look on my face was enough for her to say it is made from the shedding of the snake skin, It is sad because children do not understand or know what they wear or eat, as a child I always ate Beef, Pork, Chicken or lamb as that is what my mother fed to me, it is only as I grew older that I realised what I was eating and the suffering entailed in order for me to eat such things, I had a rabbit as a child and that was something I would never eat because I always associated mums rabbit stew with (RABBIT)how daft is that, yes I agree children should be taught at a young age exactly WHAT they are eating, to name a few of the delights children love to eat from Macdonalds and Kentucky fried chicken. YES TAKE THEM TO THE ABATTOIR BUT FOR SOME REASON I DO NOT THINK THEIR PARENTS WOULD WANT THEM TO SEE SUCH HORROR.

It seems strange that in this age of instant available information and communication people remain either ignorant or ignore the suffering of those unable to speak for themselves.

As awareness does bring about change I admire those who take the trouble to speak out for those unable to speak for themselves, so well done Mr. Morrissey for taking on Edinbugh Zoo. Children do need to at least understand the cruelty and misery that animals suffer in zoos and circuses. They are archaic as are all places where animals are kept in unnatural surroundings for the entertainment of humans.
Sincerely
Angela Brooke-Ward
