Matalan Joins Australian Wool Boycott

Following hot on the heels of other major chain stores like H&M and New Look, £1 billion store Matalan has implemented a policy against purchasing Australian wool. David Mellett, a director within Matalan, told PETA:

“[We have] instructed our suppliers that they must not source Australian merino wool for any future orders … [and] we will now include this as part of our auditing process.”

What’s all the fuss about? In Australia, a cruel process called mulesing is used, which involves crude mutilation using shears to cut huge chunks of skin and flesh from lambs’ backsides – without any pain relief – in a misguided attempt to reduce maggot infestation, even though effective and humane prevention methods exist.

In another European demo, activists and this rather forlorn looking ‘sheep’, protested against the cruelty of mulesing in Helsinki, Finland. Keep up the pressure my continental friends!

Aussies the majority are crude and vicious., who also enjoy barbaric kangaroo hunts. Good to know that some countries and business empires have empathy with Peta.org. Next stop the Canadians and seal slaughter. Ride on Ingrid Newkirk., the saviour of all creatures., and conscience of Humankind.

if I want a woolly jumper or cardi..looks like I’ll be off to Matalan then.. or H&M.. and M&S is also high on my list..
these are great stores run by people with high morals, and ethics.. shining examples of what consumer products shoudl be ..ie. without cruelty or ‘cruelty-free’..

Those darn aussies, if only they had bears and moose to hunt like the US does they’d probably have a go at them too. Whoops no, the koala “bear” is fully protected, fancy that.

I wonder how many wars Australia has started, and how many nuclear weapons have been launched on enemies by them. None come to mind.

Funniest thing is Matalan don’t buy Aussie wool anyway.

Scottish farmers would never treat their flock like that. I have seen shepherds in my local vet, here in the north east of Scotland, really upset if one of their flock is ill or suffering. To rip a chunk of flesh off its body would be unheard off. The sheep are their livly hood so why would they be bad to them. Perhaps Matalan can source their wool from Scottish flocks. They would then get beautiful wool and great colours.

Maybe the heat in Austrlia goes to the farmers head and they just go crazy on the sheep, what bloody shame, why dont they go and have a beer and relax but definlty not before sheering.

Please put a stop to this they cant possiblly have a healthy flock of sheep after treating them like this.
