HUGO BOSS Phases Out Cruel Wool

Designer giant HUGO BOSS has announced that it will phase out the use of Australian wool originating from lambs who have undergone either the standard mulesing mutilation or the new “clip mulesing” mutilation. This is fantastic news, as yet another world-famous clothing company joins the international boycott of this cruelly produced wool, following in the footsteps of H&M, Matalan and more.

In 2004, the Australian wool industry sat up and started listening to what people were saying about Australia’s cruel treatment of sheep, and publicly pledged to phase out mulesing by 2010. Fast forward to now and the industry is promoting another cruel mulesing method where clips are attached to the folded skin and flesh of lambs, causing it to rot and fall off. Mmmm, sounds great – not. HUGO BOSS hasn’t been fooled either and will be phasing out all wool that could have been produced in either of these ways. In a statement the company says:

“HUGO BOSS disassociates itself from mulesing because it contravenes our corporate values … [and] has decided to phase out the use of wool from farms that perform mulesing – including clip mulesing. Should mulesing not have ended completely by 2010, HUGO BOSS will refuse to purchase wool material from farms that perform mulesing.”

Thank Hugo Boss,

That just great news to myself, who feels for the pain and suffering in all animals and people. I am from Scotland i know sheep farmers here would never treat their sheep like that, i have been in the local vet here with farmers really upset and worried if one of their flock is unwell, like a part of the family really.

I love to shop and have an aprtment in Cannes but have become so dispondent now that most designers are using fur again. Designers hate when their products are made ‘copy’ in China and Vietnam but they buy into their horrible horrible fur factories. i wish they cold see thru this. Also what makes fur luxurious when it must be one of the cheapest forms of material ever.

Breed an animal until its at dying point, then strip the fur off its back while still alive then charge thousands of pounds/dollars for this peace of dead meat. Mr Boss and people of Hugo Boss can you try and pass this to designers of today as i love to shop and wear beautiful clothes for my husband and the world but now cant because of this.

You are so kind and i am sure your wool suits ect will look wonderful now their is no cruelty weaved into them.

Good on you.

This is what the AR movement is all about even though it doesn’t seem a lot, victories like this mean less suffering for millions of animals.

Way to go Hugo Boss!

I just wish now that I can get clarity on whether as a vegan I am ethically able to purchase their aftershaves - or do they have musk and similar nasties in?

Well that bit of news has REALLY made my day. Thank you, hugo boss. You did apsoloutly the right thing. Good on you.

I have seen more than plenty of animals being totured for clothing purposes, and it HAS to be stopped. PETA are doing a fabulous job on all the cases, and I’ve signed all the pledges. I hope u did, too!

Once again, thank you hugo boss and PETA.

That is fantastic news!

I have a question that maybe someone knows the answer to: is it strictly merino sheep (merino wool) that are subjected to mulesing or could generic wool (I’m thinking of clothing labels now). I tell people not to buy merino wool clothing.

Thanks,
Lynn

Thank you so very much HUGO BOSS. You have most definately made the right decision.

I hope now that other designers will follow your exsample. There are many alternatives to fur, leather, cosmetics, perfumes, where beauty does not need to involve cruelty.

Maybe you could work towards phasing out all animal products and spread the word to all the fashion industry.

Thank you for your decision, it has made such a difference and brightend my world.

Thank you PETA

Monsieur Hugo Boss,
Merci beaucoup,
Salutations amicales,A. De Bondt

Lets respect all life and allow animals to live their lives in peace! Animals are amazing creatures that form strong bonds with their own kind and their young. A vixen will pull out her own fur to line a nest to keep her young warm. Then there was the cat that became terribly burned because she kept going back into a burning house to rescue her kittens. There is no doubt that all animals have wonderful bonds and instincts, Why are these marvellous natural instincts so often overlooked?

Thanks Hugo Boss but please do more….Leather, silk, wool - none of it is needed. There are cruelty free alternatives.

Ok, so I will buy Hugo Boss after 2011, not before.

Thank you soooo much Hugo Boss for realizing that animals feel pain just as we do! They have feelings but one thing they DO NOT HAVE is a voice!! By showing your compassion for them, you are giving them a chance! A much needed chance at life! When you look into their eyes you can see that they are innocent beings & very scared at what their fate will be if left up to humans without heart!! You’re actions are proving to all that you are indeed a company who cares & I applaud you for that!! May God bless you & please keep up the good work!!…Johnine Cimbaro(Rescue 911-N.J.)
