Dog Abuse in Greece

When a lady living in Greece contacted PETA about the animal abuse in the country, I thought at first she might mean the odd starving stray here and there. Then along came these photos and we were so moved, we just had to share them with you. Angela talks of companion animal poisoning, tethered horses and donkeys with no water in the blazing hot sun and physical abuse. WAG and GAWF have got more info on this.

There are two more pics that are a bit graphic, here and here. Your call…

this is awful, I clicked onto the links and started crying at the pictures. You hear in the news about certain countries but I never heard about the abuses that happen in greece, I know that sadly it happens in every country but with more news coverage I hope that one day this will all stop

Not just dog abuse, chickens too… Somebody from PETA has been in a cage in Omonia in Athens to give voice to caged chickens? I read it in a Greek paper today (I live in the Netherlands), hooray for that brave fellow!!!!!

All living beings have the right to lead a decent life. We, humans, can’t deny this right to them. This barbarity towards voiceless dogs is unthinkable in 21st century.

This is so sad. One side of my family is Greek and I have always wanted to visit Greece but not after seeing how animals are treated there. I think if I saw those animals it would not be a holiday but horrible! I will NOT visit Greece while animals suffer there like this.
thank you for showing this!

Simone,
Try again and before you put your zip code in put your country in first, this should deal with the problem. If you still have a problem let me know and i will sort it out. Sorry about that.

I usually spend my holidays in santorini…and for two years I tried to save a dog from that cruelty but was impossible.nobody helped me and at the end they killed the dog.it was terrible…but I don’t let go and sooner or later I’ll take ones with me in Italy.

When I was on holiday in Crete in 2006 I found puppies dumped in a container outside my appartment. Luckily I woke up in the middle of the night because of their crying. I picked them out of the container and couldn’t believe that this was happening. I felt sick about it and throw up because I was so upset. Even now thinking about it makes my stomach go round. When I came back to The Netherlands, the images of these puppies, the sick cats and run over dogs lying beside the road dead, didn’t leave my mind. So I started a foundation for the help of animals in Crete (Stichting Dierenhulp Kreta) and till this day I’m convinced this was the best thing to do for the animals in Crete.
