Crufts in Jeopardy

The RSPCA has decided to pull out from Crufts in response to the BBC Documentary “Pedigree Dogs Exposed” which shed light on the over-breeding of pedigree dogs and the sometimes fatal inbred genetic deformities that plague them. Mark Evans, chief veterinary advisor to the RSPCA stated “Dog shows using current breed standards as the main judging criteria actively encourage both the intentional breeding of deformed and disabled dogs and the inbreeding of closely related animals”

The BBC, which broadcasts Crufts is also said to be considering future coverage after the documentary sparked an outrage when it aired last month. The Dog’s Trust was horrified over the culling of puppies that did not meet the dog show breed standards – and asked for proper inspections of their certified breeding programme – or it would also have to consider its position at any subsequent shows.

Real shame if Crufts were to be stopped eh? (Don’t all write in at once)

I really hope the BCC decides to stop coverage of this ‘Doggy Beauty Contest’its very shallow, and dosent celebrate the dog as a species, just the dog as seen in certain breeds.Culling puppies, that’s gross.I hate cruft’s.

Really happy that more issues like this are being broadcasted. We need more programmes to show the truth behind other issues, such as meat & dairy farms, circus etc etc. I got involved in PETA because of the ‘kill it, skin it, wear it’ program, which was not affiliated with PETA, but the program made me aware of what really goes on in the world. More programs like this will make more people aware.

I see in the press today Dogs Trust have also pulled out. Hooray for Dogs Trust and RSPCA finally some organisations with real clout standing up against the eugenics movement thinly veiled as a charitable organisation that is The Kennel Club!

pedigree are also going to pull out so even if the bbc decide they will show crufts again i doubt the funding will be in place due to the distinct lack of sponsorship!

Surely the BBC wouldn’t air this show after filming this expose? I sincerely hope not.

Am delighted with RSPCA ,they do a great job.I know people who breed pedigree dogs but are professional and caring in doing so,the idiots out there that are inbreeding and over breeding these poor animals are blighting a tradition and hobby that so many people enjoy.Have noticed over the last few years how breeding dogs has become a bit of a fashion but i am afraid it is to do with GREED once again ,money pushes this race of human to do whatever it can no matter the cost for ones own selfish desire.
