Our star campaigners and supporters socked it to foie gras-selling Selfridges during demonstrations outside the London store last week. Passers-by were treated to a video of undercover footage taken on foie gras farms and handed leaflets from ducks, well actually, activists wearing duck masks but you get the idea.
What is PETA’s message? Stop selling torture in a tin and get some compassion – if the production of foie gras (the grossly enlarged livers of force-fed ducks and geese) is banned in the UK, why should it be sold here?
PETA holds regular demos at Selfridges so get in touch if you want to join in the fun. Reports tell me that these demos are really successful and are known to get a positive response from even the store’s employees. Way to go foie gras foes!

A brave and sexy volunteer stripped down to nothing, I repeat, nothing, in PETA US’ second annual State of the Union Undress. Now us Brits may not have a clue about State of the Union Address which it mocks, and I have to admit I didn’t. Maybe it’s like the Queen’s speech but with an American twang? But hey I did some research and now it’s a little clearer…
On Monday, PETA US launched the new nude video which shows the gorgeous lady undressing as she gives a speech about what they have accomplished during the year and what happens to animals the world over. The very same day President Bush gave his final annual State of Union message. Still not up on what he had to say but all I know is the naked PETA US one will have people’s eyes glued to their computer screens!
View the raunchy video. Warning: You must be 18 or over to view this video. It’s a bit racy

We all know that going veggie or vegan is the rock star thing to do and the past few days have seen an influx of articles on PETA celebrity legends and their compassionate diets. Morrissey reportedly pre-orders vegetarian meals for his roadies and will fire crew members if he catches them eating meat on tour, so says a former valet of his. Good for him, and I hope he never gives in to a single Big Mac wielding employee!

Bryan Adams has also been hitting the headlines with an insight into his oh-so-healthy vegan diet, which you can read in full here.
I love how simply he puts it: “I’m very slim due to my diet. When I see men and women my age with their guts hanging over their trousers I wish someone was able to explain the benefits of diet, and that they are likely to be toxic and blocked from the things they’ve eaten.” So true Bryan, so true.

You may have heard that PETA’s Managing Director Ingrid Newkirk was arrested in Coimbatore, India, the other day for blindfolding a Mahatma Gandhi statue during the notorious Jallikatu. Why did she do it?
As she explains in her letter to The Times newspaper, who covered the story, these tormented bulls are treated in much the same way as those forced to take part in the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona. She was simply trying to “symbolically shield” his eyes from the cruel spectacle taking place in front of him.
You can read more about what horrors go on at Jallikatu here.
“Videos of Jallikattu now circulating on the Internet show what the bulls endure and that veterinarians cannot possibly monitor the animals to prevent the common practice of dosing them with crude alcohol and rubbing chilli peppers into their eyes,” writes Ingrid. Right on!
Luckily for us PETA folks and the animals, Ingrid was released and allowed to continue her India tour.

If the animals could speak, they would probably say, among other things, “Pam, we love you!” The sexy Baywatch babe saw her chance at spreading the cruelty-free word in a recent interview with The Guardian and grabbed it with both hands, without mentioning much else bar the odd cute comment on jelly beans.
She unashamedly storms right in with the animal rights message in the first answer she gives, claiming her happiest moment in life is, “When PETA picked me to be on their first Times Square anti-fur billboard”. Wow. I think I speak on behalf of everyone when I say, “Pam, you rock.” View the full interview click here.
